Position Summary
Works under general direction to provide assistance to the Shelby County Soil and Water Conservation District by performing administrative duties related to conservation education, maintenance of the Mary's Creek Watershed Dams program, and grants funded through the Tennessee Department of Agriculture (TDA). Assists the Natural Resources Conservation Service (USDA NRCS) in complying with federal mandates and promoting District objectives.
Pay Grade: 48
Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education
Minimum Qualifications
100% -
1.Three (3) years of experience in administrative office management; AND
2.Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in soil resource management or related field; OR
3.An equivalent combination of related education and/or experience.
4.PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
Duties and Responsibilities
1.Plans and coordinates field days, tours, meetings, and other education activities.
2.Develops databases and reports that improve the efficiency of the District services and develop spreadsheet applications that enhances NRCS and the District's operations.
3.Prepares grant applications for state TDA funding of Best Management Practices and administers the grants.
4.Assists with the district's annual report and the annual plan of work. Assists with district newsletters, no-till drills, and fish sales.
5.Assists homeowners, realtors, industry consultants, agencies, schools, and other individuals and groups with conservation concerns.
6.Assists with Conservation Reserve Program (CRP), Wetland Reserve Program (WRP) Environmental Quality Incentive Program (EQIP), NRCS compliance checks, and other USDA programs.
7.Assists with administration of PL-83-566 Mary's Creek Watershed Dams with maintenance and rehabilitation.
8.Assists NRCS employees with field applications and computer applications.
9.Prepares, processes, and maintains financial and permanent records for the District, TDA, and County.

KSAs -
1.Knowledge of basic agriculture and administrative function skills as they apply to the assigned position.
2.Working knowledge of the principles and practices of Natural Resources Conservation Service (USDA NRCS). Tennessee Department of Agriculture (TDA) and the District.
3.Ability to implement computer operation in the Memphis Field Office.
4.Thorough knowledge of the programs assigned to the Memphis Field Office District.
5.Ability to work with co-workers, the public, agencies and with other departments of Shelby County Government.
