Position Description
The Technology and Development Electrical team oversees the product development of the Advanced Surgical Device systems, exemplified through the Voyant Intelligent Energy System. The Technology and Development Electrical team takes products from ideation to production and through maintenance throughout the product's life cycle. Engineers with electrical, software, and computer engineering backgrounds collaborate to design highly optimized embedded systems that meet users' needs without burdensome costs.
As a Software Test Engineer at Applied Medical, you will play a crucial role in testing embedded systems and components for medical devices. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that the electrical systems meet product requirements and comply with regulatory standards. Additionally, you will contribute to the troubleshooting and resolution of issues, ensuring the safety and reliability of the medical devices.
As a Software Test Engineer I/II, you will be responsible for working within the framework of a team and performing the following activities. The successful candidate will be instrumental in:
Verify and validate embedded software for medical devices and PC software
Read, analyze, understand the requirements, and support requirements reviews
Decompose requirements and independently test development
Write test protocols per defined process
Participate in design reviews, evaluate for test coverage and adequacy
Execute test protocols, conduct various system level manual, and automated testing
Log and track issues to closure
Collect, analyze data and trends
Work closely with software development team and interface with other engineering teams to resolve issues and ensure the software function as expected
Support submission of written test protocols, test reports, traceability matrix, and other engineering documentation
Key Interest
You will need a passion for software testing and have knowledge of programming languages such as C/C++ and Python, being able to write basic programs. It is crucial to undestand that this position is a test position and will not be writing the software that become part of the medical device software.
Objectives
While experience in embedded device testing or medical device testing is desirable, it is not mandatory. The role will involve testing embedded software, focusing on the Voyant product, with potential involvement in testing future products
Performance Objectives
Within your first 6 months, you will be responsible for learning about our company, contributing to various projects and leading project management initiatives.
During your first 30 days, you will:
Learn about Applied Medical's mission and vision and take part in a variety of Applied Learning foundational courses
Discuss your goals and expectations with your team leaders and read and review all relevant team resources and materials
Immerse yourself in team meetings and discussions
Within 60 days, you will:
Exhibit a strong technical understanding of the product lines and projects
Support team meetings and agendas
Take on one or more projects that require low to moderate guidance
Within 90 days to 1 year, you will:
Develop interpersonal connections and relationships with others to effectively accomplish project objectives and deliverables
Lead moderate to complex projects with minimal guidance or direction
Demonstrate a strong understanding of Applied Medical's Quality Management System (QMS) and effectively troubleshoot challenges or obstacles that may affect project timelines
Handle a variety of projects on your own
Position Requirements
This position requires the following skills and attributes:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline or its equivalent
Knowledge of software development life cycles
Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
Strong educational foundation for a position in software test
Eager to learn to work at the hardware software boundary of embedded devices
Strong documentation skills and attention to detail
Fully support the Quality Policy by building quality into all aspects of work by maintaining compliance to all quality requirements
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Preferred
The following skills and attributes are preferred:
Programming skill and experience with C, assembly or other comparable programming languages, scripting languages, compilers, debuggers, test automation systems, and bug tracking systems
Experience with embedded firmware and Real-Time Operating System (RTOS)
Industry experience in medical device or embedded device design and test
Understanding of electronic test and embedded devices
Experience reading schematics and using electronic test equipment
Experience supporting development or manufacturing electronics teams
Experience with content management systems and document management systems
