Purpose of Position
The purpose of this position is to provide programming/computer coding support to Metrology engineering team on a variety of measurement equipment used in a glass manufacturing facility. Responsible for designing, developing, troubleshooting, and debugging software programs that interface between the measurement equipment and the manufacturing execution system. Develops software tools including operating systems, compilers, routers, networks, utilities, databases, and internet-related tools, etc. Determines hardware compatibility and/or influences hardware design. A few examples of the measurement equipment interfaced by this position includes Interferometers Fluorescence and Raman measurement systems UV-Vis Spectrophotometers FTIR measurement systems Polarimeters Various other transmission measurement systems
Day to Day Responsibilities:
Interface between Metrology Engineering department and locate IT to properly integrate measurement system data into the plant manufacturing execution systems.
Key programmer used to upgrade and test existing glass analysis software used by manufacturing to select products for sale.
Perform data analysis on glass selection software to understand plant manufacturing capabilities.
Testing customer supplied software vs product specifications and integrate this software into plant manufacturing execution system.
Write, audit and maintain process documentation as needed, and as scheduled.
Attend Process Engineering and/or production-related meetings.
Work on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of identifiable factors.
Exercise judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
Required Education and Experience:
Minimum Bachelor's Degree - prefer Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Optical Engineering or Physics.
Experience in C#, Python, .NET, SQL or other programming languages.
Ability to work on cross functional teams in a manufacturing environment.
Ability to review, analyze, interpret, and draw conclusions from data.
Results orientated.
Demonstrated strong problem solving and analytical skills.
Solid presentation and communication skills.
MS Office; particularly Word, Access and Excel; ability to build queries, set up spreadsheets with formulas, etc.
Able to methodically think through and solve complex problems.
Ability to work with cross-functional teams, vendors, other Corning facilities and in a union work environment.
Willingness to interact with others and actively seek out answers.
Ability to work with minimal supervision (can plan / organize their activities based on objectives).
