We are looking for an enthusiastic Software Support Engineer to join our customer support team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on varied, cutting edge projects for leading science and engineering organisations.
Some of the solutions we provide are bespoke software applications and systems written for our customers. Our Application Continuity and Improvement (ACI) team maintains an ongoing relationship with our customers by providing support and maintenance activities for them. This includes developing system enhancements, fixing bugs, and ensuring that applications remain up to date with modern software technologies.
The Role

You will bring analytical and problem-solving skills to help solve some of the challenges our clients face with their existing software systems. You will be involved in a range of different projects simultaneously and your responsibilities will vary depending on the project, but will include:
Carry out small software enhancement projects over a range of applications.
Provide hands-on software support to aid with diagnosis of problems and incident resolution.
Investigate and resolve in-depth customer queries and underlying software issues.
Handle incidents, documenting and informing customers of progress.
Ensure incidents get addressed within our contracted timescales.
Manage the escalation of support work to other teams if required.
Liaise with other customer teams or with third parties as required.
You will have the opportunity to work on a variety of interesting projects for leading organizations and you will further your own experience in a wide range of technologies.
Requirements

If you are interested in joining our dynamic and collaborative ACI team, you should have:
B.S. (min GPA 3.5) or M.S. or PhD in any science, technology, math or engineering discipline.
Software development experience in one or more of the following: Java, Python, C, C#, C++.
The eagerness and capacity to quickly learn new science and technologies and apply your skills to unsolved challenges.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to juggle several priorities at once.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical solutions to clients and colleagues from all backgrounds.

Business Need / Purpose of Role The Field Support Engineer is responsible for ensuring products are capable of being installed safely and efficiently. The Field Support Engineer creates and manages field installation procedures for surface pressure control products for North America. In addition, the Field Support Engineer is the engineering point of contact for field non-conformance reports and ensures identified preventative actions are effective. The Field Support Engineer collaborates with product engineering, field operations and product line management in successful introduction of new products. Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities Including but not limited to: * Creates product installation procedures and manages product installation procedure library * Ensure field non-conformance root cause, corrective action, and preventative action related to product issues are complete and effective * Identifies and implements improvements to product installation procedures * Recommends product improvements * Attends new product design reviews and provides input on installation of product * Utilize CAD software to create/modify installation procedure drawings and/or analyze product non-conformances * Perform calculations required for API 6A products * Ability to perform duties in the absence of direct supervision * Ability to manage assigned projects and effectively lead cross-functional teams * Travel to field locations and districts is expected and may consume 10-20% of the employee's time Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications Education/Experience: Minimum Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering or Technical discipline with a minimum of 5 years' experience in an engineering or technical role related to API 6A equipment. Product design, installation, and testing experience with multiple API 6A products is preferred. Language: Strong written and verbal communication skills, specifically, capable of reading and interpreting technical specifications, customer, industry and business publications and writing technical reports targeted at colleagues, senior management or customers. Mathematical Skills: Sound mathematical understanding, with fast mental arithmetic capability. Ability to calculate loads, deflections, and stresses common to API 6A equipment and compare against industry standard allowable stresses. Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must be able to work independently and without supervision. Clear, rational and logical thought processes. Capable of leading a systematic, data-driven problem solving process.
