As a Software Engineering Manager, you will be fostering the growth and technical aptitude of software engineers. You will be acting as a consultant to the engineers by utilizing past experience, knowledge, and skills. Using situational leadership to direct less experienced engineers and to provide autonomy to the more experienced engineers. Assisting engineers in setting expectations and communicating across functions and teams. Meanwhile, guiding engineers to keep a quality-focused atmosphere while also balancing business needs. Our engineering managers are expected to stay in sync with the scrum masters, product owners and other chapters, in order to properly direct engineers. Finally, it is critical to lead by example and demonstrate accountability, openness, agile fluency, and technical experience.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
Provide leadership, direction and growth to our engineers
Dive efforts toward practical requirements and timeframes, in order to build great products
Maintain constant stream of communication with Delivery Leads and be accountable for the success of the delivery team
Help within the translation of business requirements into technical needs and actions
Ensure decisions are effectively communicated, validated and adhered to
Measure and drive team towards company objectives
Oversee department coordination to maintain consistency with best practices and quality methodologies
DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?
5+ years of software development or software engineering
3+ years of management experience
Significant engineering background, or background in this role (6+ years)
Ability to pull from past experiences to make properly balanced decisions
Demonstrate ability to be highly intrinsically motivated
Demonstrate, and be able to teach, strong accountability (staying above-the-line), practices, and principles at every step of the software development life cycle
Strong leadership skills are a must
Strong delegation skills must be present. Individual will need to delegate tasks and prioritize/balance work to accomplish goals
Demonstrate strong communication and collaboration qualities
Ability to show empathy for teams/individuals and the willingness to help resolve issues
Must be in tune with what it takes to foster a great development culture
High School Diploma required
