The Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) Microelectronics Design and Application (MDA) business pushes the boundaries of innovation, redefining the leading edge of exotic new technologies in computation and system security. In MDA we are leveraging NG proprietary superconducting technologies to transform computing beyond Moore's Law and advance development of large-scale high performance computing systems. You will work in a fast-paced team environment alongside a broad array of scientists and engineers to make these solutions a reality.

Microelectronics Design and Application (MDA) engineering is seeking managers to support organizational growth across business area. The role will combine a substantial program management or technical leadership role along with department people leadership responsibilities. The manager will lead a multi-disciplined team of engineers and scientists supporting activities within the MDA business units.

What You'll Get to Do:

This is a dual-role technical manager position. Management duties will require tasking and coordination of approximately 8-12 engineers, and process and resource co‐ordination with functional homeroom management. The manager will also be expected to perform technical work on programs. It is anticipated that given the size of the functional team, the split between program and functional duties will be approximately 90/10, on average. The direct program work for this position requires experience as a software systems, test, and architecture.

Key roles and responsibilities include:

Software managers will provide technical and staffing support to programs:

  • Execute in a direct contributor role for programs as a software, systems, test engineer or as a software architect.

  • Work with team technical leads and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to define requirements.

  • Effective communication with program management and technical leads.

  • Work with Talent Acquisition, technical staff, and functional management to screen candidates, set up interviews, collect feedback, and assist in determining whether to make offers.

  • Development /programming of tools to improve pipeline efficiency, eliminate repetitive tasks, and implement new analysis tools/techniques.

  • Generate proposal and estimates inputs for new work.

  • Lead the team in applying the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools using Agile development methodology.

  • Guide the team in compliance with the Internal Software Development Plan (SDP).

Software managers also manages a group of up to 15 direct reports:

  • Set attainable goals.

  • Execute performance reviews.

  • Guide the employees regarding career development.

  • Support teams or individuals to improve performance and achieve goals through coaching and mentoring.

  • Provide Flow down and direction from upper management and the organization.

This position requires work onsite at our Sacramento, CA Northrop Grumman facilities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with 9+ years of experience within a related engineering field.

  • Proficient in Python, C++, Java.

  • Strong leadership qualities, including excellent communication and collaboration, team engagement, and organizational skills.

  • 9 years of progressive Software Engineering/Development experience

  • Experience as a team lead for a software development team.

  • US Citizenship is required.

  • Able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance with polygraph per business requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current, active Top-Secret clearance and/or SCI with CI or FS polygraph.

  • Experience leading teams in a functional, programmatic, or technical capacity.

  • 5 years of experience leading a software development team

  • Experience as a scrum master and/or product owner.

  • Experience with functional management.

  • Experience managing a budget for technical activities.

  • Experience with the Atlassian tool suite (Jira, Confluence, Bit Bucket)

Salary Range: $151,900.00 - $227,900.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
