As a Software Intern you will work with engineers and business area staff supporting multiple programs. Typical job functions may include participation on collaborative, cross-discipline teams, often employing agile software development techniques and tools to plan, design, develop, test, and integrate complex software and systems solutions. Responsibilities can span the full lifecycle of product development, from architecture and design, through integration, flight test, and field support.

For Multi-Level Intern Requisitions:

  • This position can be a Salary Grade of G04, G05 or NUG based on the candidate's qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibility requirements for the position.
  • G04 (College Junior by Fall 2021) - must have completed 60 hours of college
  • G05 (College Senior by Fall 2021) - must have completed 90 hours of college
  • NUG (Post- Graduate-Masters-PhD by Fall 2021) - must have an undergraduate degree and currently enrolled or about to enroll in a graduate degree program

Required Skills:

  • Exposure to basic engineering principles. Any class that addresses engineering fundamentals satisfies this requirement.

  • Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Windows.

  • Experience with C/C++ programming language.

  • Exposure to a modern Integrated Development Environment (IDE). Any class project that uses an IDE to develop software code satisfies this requirement.

  • Exposure to the principles of Object Oriented Design and Development.

  • Ability and willingness to work remotely.

  • This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. Except in rare circumstances, only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Desired Skills:

  • Working knowledge of Linux or Unix.

  • VHDL/Verilog experience.

  • JAVA experience.

  • MATLAB experience.

  • Familiarity with using Use Cases/Case Studies in engineering.

  • Exposure to communications systems and theory and Signal Processing concepts.

  • Experience with Configuration Management tools, such as GIT.

  • Scripting experience with languages such as Python and Perl.

  • User Interface development.

  • Basic understanding network protocols, such as TCP/IP.

  • Basic understanding of telecommunications systems concepts and/or signal processing.

  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (Please upload an unofficial transcript when applying)

Required Education (including major): Currently pursuing a BS / BA degree from a four-year university and entering as a college Junior or Senior year OR pursuing a MS / MA / PhD by Fall 2021. Must be working towards a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science Mathematics, Physics, or equivalent technical discipline. Must be appropriate grade level listed above.

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access US only data systems.

Job Purpose The Engineering Technician is responsible for technical task elements. Generally, the focus of this position is on assigned task elements and recommendations are limited in scope. Objectives are typically established by others. Essential Duties and Responsibilities * Critiques new Operating Instructions (OIs) for completeness, clarity and ease of use by manufacturing personnel and revises existing OIs - in concert with the lead engineer and manufacturing liaison personnel - to improve their effectiveness. * Applies experience with all facets of thermal battery manufacture, testing, and the safe handling of energetic materials to assist product development engineers with the smooth transition from product design and qualification to manufacture. * Reviews proposed battery and component designs and recommend changes, as appropriate, to improve product manufacturability, reliability and profitability. * Prepares and/or reviews mechanical drawings and Manufacturing Equipment Engineering Instructions. * Supports Engineering writing reports. * Performs laboratory research and tasks. Records observations, measurements, and reports results. * Serves as a liaison to manufacturing on a day-to-day basis to facilitate communication between Engineering, Manufacturing and Quality, thereby helping to ensure that all critical program milestones are completed on schedule and within budget. * Coordinates engineering commitments through manufacturing, anticipates bottlenecks, and scheduling conflicts, and recommends and implements work-around solutions. * Proactively identifies inefficiencies and proposes and/or implements, as appropriate, alternate methods for increasing throughput and reducing both waste and cost. * Reviews manufacturability issues to ensure proper coordination and resolution with the appropriate manufacturing personnel. * May assist with prototyping, rapid development and Bid & Proposal (B&P) activities. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications * Associate's degree in a technicial field, or 5 years of experience in a related discipline. * Good problem solving and visualization skills needed. * High proficiency required.
