Position Summary Software Engineering Intern

Work closely with, learn from, and assist software engineers in the development of various engineering assignments related to state-of-the-art products by executing SW design, coding, and documentation tasks, and assist in the testing of software within finished products, systems or subsystems. This is a paid, part-time internship opportunity.

Primary & Essential Accountabilities

  • Carry out basic SW engineering tasks that will help in understanding SW development procedures and product development while learning new SW engineering skills.

  • Conduct limited scope development and/or testing under the supervision of other SW engineers using "C" and other languages.

  • Complete assigned tasks on time, while developing skills that allow for more autonomy.

  • You may be called upon to help in investigations needed to solve SW or HW problems by leveraging your strengths in software development and debugging skills.

  • Must have good interpersonal skills and have the ability to build a good network

  • Perform a wide variety of tasks to gain familiarity with the engineering staff, methods, programs and practices

  • Learn, support, communicate, reinforce, and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization.

  • Enrolled in a 4 year Software or Electrical Engineering program.

  • At least 2 years of college completed with 3.0 GPA or better.

  • Ability to solve complex problems using your natural curiosity.

  • Work effectively as a member of a team or on individual tasks.

EOIS is a leading designer, manufacturer and integrator of high performance, technically advanced infrared (IR) cooled and uncooled detector packages, electro-optical and infrared (EOIR) cameras and EOIR camera systems for military and commercial applications. Military platforms for EOIS-designed and manufactured systems include dismounted soldiers, ground combat vehicles, rotor and fixed-wing aircraft, and space-based payloads. Job Location Melbourne, FL Position Summary Responsible for leading and managing a team of Software Engineers supporting the EOIS business unit in development, qualification and sustainment of EO/IR system software products. Duties and Responsibilities Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: * Lead and manage a team of Software Engineers engaged in system software and software configuration item requirements development, system software and software configuration item design and analysis, software interface design and control, software product integration, verification and validation (software test), and software product sustainment and support. * Responsible for the technical excellence and quality of software products produced by the Software Engineering organization. * Perform as Software Engineering subject matter expert with regard to Software Product Lifecycle processes and ensure Software Engineering best practices are implemented. Working with Software Engineering leaders at other Leonardo DRS sites, continually assess adequacy of enterprise Software Engineering processes and resulting software products and continually improve those processes consistent with business objectives. * Ensure good risk management principles are applied to software product development activities. * Work closely with project managers, project engineers and project software leads to ensure Software Engineering activities are appropriately scheduled and budgeted into project plans, that skilled resources are assigned and that those activities are successfully executed per plan. * Personally provide Software Engineering technical support to project teams as necessary. * Work closely with Software Quality Assurance to ensure that software quality control is being performed on all Software Engineering activities and products. * Work closely with Configuration Management to ensure good software baseline control and effective change management is performed on all Software Engineering activities and products. * Promote software product and tools reuse and commonality across the enterprise. Ensure lessons learned are applied to software products and software product lifecycle activities. * Define position requirements, interview and hire Software Engineering personnel. * Organize Software Engineering staff and create work assignments that achieve both project objectives and provide for personnel development. * Provide training and career development to Software Engineers. Train others in Software Engineering and Software Product Lifecycle skills, processes and procedures. * Provide a comprehensive and timely review of each Software Engineering team members' performance. * Assist the organization with workforce planning and management of engineering discretionary budgets and overhead budgets. Required Education and Work Experience * Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering is required. A Master's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering is preferred. * Minimum of fifteen years Software Engineering experience encompassing system software and software configuration item requirements development, software architecture design and development, code analysis, software integration, and software product verification and validation is required. * Minimum of five years Software Engineering organizational leadership and management experience is required. * Experience writing software using high-level programming languages is required. Experience using C, C++ and C# is preferred. * Experience in embedded, real-time software development is required. Experience developing in VxWorks and Free RTOS-distributed real-time operating system environments is preferred. * Experience hosting software products on Intel Altera FPGAs and Xilinx FPGAs is preferred. * Experience with software/firmware integration is required. * Experience leading software product development employing DOD-STD-2167A and ISO/IEC/IEEE 12207 standards and methodologies is required. Experience with Agile development standards and methodologies is preferred. * Experience with software development in a CMMI for Development Level 3 or higher process environment is required. * Experience with software requirements, design and verification aspects with regard to cybersecurity is preferred. Working experience with operating system hardening, mitigating vulnerabilities and knowledge of penetration strategies is preferred.
