Job Overview:
Software Engineer develops and maintains in-house computer programs and databases to store, locate, and retrieve specific documents, data, and information to aide in the efficient operation of Summit County Public Health.
Job Duties:
Provides general programming support services and develops documentation.
Prepares and installs solutions by determining and designing system specifications, standards, and programming.
Develops and maintains programming of internal data systems.
Provides ongoing maintenance, support and enhancements in existing systems and platforms.
Maintains internal Microsoft SQL databases.
Develops data connections to external APIs to enhance functionality of systems.
Develops custom data reports as needed.
Works on special projects as assigned.
Works closely with staff and cross-functional departments to communicate project statuses and proposals.
Provides recommendations for continuous improvement.
Provides backup support for help desk.
Updates job knowledge by studying state-of-the-art development tools, programming techniques, and computing equipment; participating in educational opportunities; reading
professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
Performs job duties under the regulations, policies and procedures set forth by Summit County Public Health and outside agencies such as the County Fiscal Officer, Ohio
Department of Health, and state and federal government.
Performs any other duties as required for the efficient operation of Summit County Public Health.
Obliges, as set forth by the Summit County Public Health Emergency Operations Plan and within the scope of their employment, to be available for emergency service during
routine and non-routine hours of operation including 24/7/365 availability. May be required to have medical clearance for respiratory protection or other personal
protective equipment and may be exposed to inclement weather, extreme temperatures, unpleasant smells or odors, dust, dirt, fumes, airborne particles, pesticides, toxins or
caustic chemicals.
Required Qualifications:
This position requires a high school diploma with related certifications or experience.
Three to five years of software engineering or software development experience.
Experience managing the software development lifecycle.
Current valid Ohio driver's license, automobile availability and insurance coverage.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or related field preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Comprehensive understanding of computer science concepts and object oriented programming.
Ability to communicate technical information, both verbal and written, to a wide range of end-users.
Ability to prioritize activities and deliver projects on time.
Strong customer service and troubleshooting skills.
Excellent coding skills.
Integrity, sense of responsibility, independent judgment.
