As part of the Engineering Core of ASU Enterprise Technology, the Software Development Engineer Sr will not only lead the development and maintenance of ASU Enterprise Applications but will also have the opportunity to contribute to a portfolio of products supporting Student Success Initiatives, Universal Learners, Smart Campus and more. We are seeking an experienced Software Development Engineer Sr with experience architecting & supporting solutions in AWS. An ideal candidate owns and delivers outcomes in service of quarterly project, product, and service goals by designing, developing, testing, deploying, maintaining, and enhancing software solutions. They will proactively lead the design and implementation of complex initiatives while providing technical guidance to fellow engineers. Employing a DevSecOps methodology, the candidate will contribute to the ET mission of delivering advanced, highly available technology services to the University.

Working Environment

• Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, 3-years prior experience developing software in an academic environment; OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

Knowledge software applications to assess, design, and adapt, as necessary, to facilitate effective use of application(s) in problem solving. Knowledge of relevant software engineering practices and design methodologies; emerging expert in principles, practices, developments, and techniques used in systems analysis and applications programming. Skill in designing and implementing software applications; analyzing pre-existing software to identify and resolve complex problems. Evidence of effective communication skills (orally and writing) with the ability to convey technical issues in with clarity. Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve issues and requests; escalates potential conflict situations to appropriate internal and/or external parties; strong understanding of the principles of customer service.

• Serve as a solutions architect for web applications deployed on AWS, designing robust, secure, and scalable architectures
• Take lead as primary developer on team projects, contributing expertise in both back-end to front-end coding
• Responsible for the maintenance and optimization of AWS infrastructure
• Heavy experience with ReactJS
• Can prioritize fixing major system reliability issues
• Optimizes code effectively for performance and sustainability
• Brings deep experience with DevOps philosophy, culture and practice
