Overview:

This position will support the Air Force's Space Superiority Service Core mission requirements and Space Enterprise Vision growth areas by providing concept design, development, integration, test and evaluation of new space technologies, innovative, engineering prototypes, and new employment concepts.

Purpose of the contract is to provide the required research, engineering, and technical management for performing space technology analysis, development, integration, experimentation, demonstration, and evaluation in support of the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Space Vehicles Directorate's mission.

Responsibilities

Experience with the following but not limited to:

  • Spacecraft Flight Software development and Object Oriented software development

  • Working in an Agile development environment using Distributed Version Control System (Git, Mercurial, etc.) and tools such as JIRA Issue & Project Management Tracker

  • Determines research approach given customer needs and requirements; researches, investigates and gathers system, sub-system, historical, and technical information and performance data under limited supervision in order to prepare reports, briefings, and presentations.

  • Examines and evaluates system, historical, and technical information to formulate present and potential mission requirements.

  • Identifies performance and operational issues and recommends modifications of system designs through written reports, briefings, or analyses in light of mission requirements and competing systems.

  • Develops effectiveness measures including systems need, environment, constraints, and operations concepts.

  • Draws conclusions and verifies computational and quantitative analysis.

  • Compiles summaries and reports for customer representatives and answers technical questions regarding project scheduling and work requirements.

  • Prepares charts and graphs as supporting data; edits and rewrites reports and narrative for technical accuracy; and interacts with customer representatives concerning the status of assigned tasks.

  • Recommends personnel resources and labor requirements for proper project performance.

  • Uses computer modeling to perform mathematical computations and failure analysis.

  • Technical advisor, task/group technical manager, and/or in an independent research, design, analysis, technical review or study role.

Qualifications

  • DoD SECRET or equivalent security clearance at a minimum.

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technicaldegrees (i.e., B.S. or higher degree in engineering, technology, mathematics, physics, or chemistry)

  • Demonstrated experience (11-15 years' minimum) participating in research activities with a detailed focus on analysis and drawing conclusions.

  • Possess strong problem solving, analytical and debugging skills.

Existing code may require refactoring to make it more maintainable and robust. New Hire Success Factors 30 days: Successfully in process accomplishing all security-related activities resulting in access to Government computer networks. Candidate will review and demonstrate understanding of team processes and procedures 60 days: Interact with team and other teammates successfully supporting software tool maintenance and development and other activities as directed for mission support. Qualifications * Candidate must be a U.S. citizen and have ability to obtain and maintain a US Secret Clearance. * Candidate must possess a Bachelor's degree or greater in in engineering, math, physics, computer science or other related field. * 10 plus years of relevant experience. * Candidate must be able to work as a software engineer in a team environment performing object-oriented design and programming. * Demonstrated ability to use and uphold standard software development processes including software analysis, design, testing, peer review, and continuous integration techniques is essential. * Proficiency in one or more of the following programming languages is required: C++, C#, Java, or Javascript. Knowledge of RDBMS is essential. * Candidate must be familiar with and adept in using an IDE such as Visual Studio, Qt Creator, Eclipse. * Previous development of GUIs using a framework such .NET or Qt is highly desirable. * Candidate should also be conversant in network programming and multi-tier web application development. * Candidate should have some familiarity with Agile development principles and processes. * Can handle sensitive information with the highest degree of integrity and confidentiality.
