Are you interested in building and establishing tools for testing functionality and quality of distributed systems as they apply to the Internet of Things? The Software Quality Engineering team is key to improving how we build, break and rebuild at SmartThings, designing and building the tools used by developers and testers to verify both reliability and quality of all systems, from embedded software through globally distributed cloud applications.

We are looking for an experienced Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) with a passion for making both development and test teams more efficient and productive. Someone who loves to break things as well as build things to inject quality into software throughout the entire development lifecycle. As an SDET you will work on test automation tools, lead others to accomplish results and have a direct and meaningful impact on the quality of the SmartThings platform.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain automated tests targeting Cloud Microservices

  • Create solutions to improve testability and quality of interactions between cloud services and devices.

  • Analyze product requirements and create test strategies to measure product quality, performance and stability

  • Integrate with the development team and our Continuous Delivery infrastructure to establish a continuous test cycle

  • Establish processes and toolsets to maintain automation scripts and generate regular test reports

Requitements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.

  • 3+ years experience testing Microservices and RESTful web services using automation

  • Programming languages include Python, Java, Groovy

  • An understanding of large scale computing solutions, including software design and development, database architectures, IP networking, and performance testing.

  • Experience and continued interest in learning unfamiliar frameworks, and other tools

Partnering with key technical and business stakeholders, the agile developer will help refine the product vision, estimate and design a solution, create, purchase, or customize the requisite hardware and software to create the solution, ensure the quality of the final product through manual and automated tests, and support the new software as it is moved to production. Primary Responsibilities: * Accountable to software development leadership for quality engineering strategy from a technical perspective. * Provide both Manual and Automation test support as needed per demand. * Specify frameworks and test automation tools. * Recommend training and serve as a mentor to test automation engineers. * Support multiple sprinting teams to ensure consistent quality practices * Build and maintain test automation framework in an ATDD environment * Identify opportunities for process improvement through automated solutions. * Participate in test automation code reviews * Support DevOps and CICD practices.
