Software Engineer II

The Sutter Health Design & Innovation Team believes in the power of design to inspire and delight. ABOUT THE JOB

You'll be building and delivering features at a fast pace, working on greenfield projects. You'll make healthcare more human, not less, with tech that is powerful, yet coy. This is an opportunity to work for social good and make a contribution to programs that raise the health status of the communities we live in.

You will work with a diverse team that includes business leaders, software engineers, data scientists, designers, researchers, and product managers to create useful and elegant solutions.

Sutter Health is one of the nation's largest not-for-profit healthcare systems, serving 3 million patients across 25 hospitals and hundreds of outpatient facilities in Northern California. The Design & Innovation team moves fast, and has the feel of a small startup within a large organization. We are perpetually curious about people, and that empathy fuels our work.

• Web-based interface for care teams to collaboratively manage SMS conversations with patients.

• Automated, SMS-based surveys to onboard patients and track their health progress.

• Remote monitoring dashboard of sleep data for health coaches to support patients form good sleep habits.

Education

• Bachelor's EE/CE/CS Required Or equivalent education/experience

Experience

• 6 years as a software architect/engineer

• Comfortable developing in software environments that are most applicable to the project at hand, including (but not limited to) Ruby on Rails, Stimulus.js, PostgreSQL, Redis, Heroku, Twilio,

Auth0.

• Experience building enterprise scale web applications

• Experience in all aspects of software product lifecycle, from concept to fast prototype, design, build, deployment, and support. Ability to translate business strategy into technical vision and strategy through prototype creation, refinement and enterprise scale implementation

• Experience in translating needs of business partner/clients to application design using industry standard logical and physical modeling (e.g., E-R diagrams)

• Track record of thriving in high performing teams in a fast paced environment

• Demonstrated ability in consulting with vendors, clients, and management in order to gather functional requirements as input into application architecture design, prototype, and development efforts.

• Knowledge of leading and emerging software products, technologies and products

• Ability to communicate complex technical issues in terms clearly understood by technical and non-technical audiences

• Familiarity with Human Centered Design processes

• Health care work experience

• Experience with agile development

• Experience with modern wireframing and other UI/UX tools

Skills and Knowledge

• Lead development of technical strategy, long term roadmap, implementation plan, and detailed deliverables for all Design & Innovation technical platforms and applications

• Responsible for end to end current and future state architecture for all Design & Innovation technical platforms

• Build software prototypes rapidly to prove value before enterprise-scale development

• Drive development of quick iterative functional prototypes that move understanding of product requirements forward

• Lead development and deployment of enterprise scale Design & Innovation technical platforms and applications

• Maintain a deep understanding of prevailing technology, applications, industry best practices, business processes and architectural patterns and ensure consistency with internal technical platforms

• Assist Innovation leadership with interviews and mentoring junior software engineers

• Communicate with other team members to ensure alignment with broader business goals, seek input, and ensure other team members' clear understanding of internal technical platforms

• Selection and management of external partners and vendors, as necessary

• Communicate with senior leadership and all relevant stakeholders to ensure alignment around technical strategy and ensure that technical strategy consistently meets business objectives

• Lead collaboration meetings to drive solutioning related to technical strategy
