Position Responsibilities:

Support control programs and technology options

  • Create specifications of system improvement and new features

  • Edit or create programs based on specifications

  • Assist in commissioning of new RCS rigs and retrofit kits

  • Perform program release testing

  • Trains and develops new entry level employees

  • Must have the ability to prioritize/re-prioritize tasks, carry out root cause analysis, and deal with scheduling conflicts.

Special Knowledge, certification or License:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Software Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent experience (5-10 years)

  • Training in embedded software development, object oriented development in C++

  • Experience in agile software development is preferred

  • A basic understanding of electronics

  • Unit testing of programs developed

  • A basic understanding of hydraulic systems is a plus

  • Experience in infrastructure / servers, .NET, or having Cisco certification or MCSE will be a benefit

  • Training and experience in control system design and logic will be a benefit

Work Experience (Minimum Required):

  • Robotic or Machine controls programming

  • Experience in C/C++ and Java for human interfacing and GUI development

Must be a team player - open-minded and flexible.

Interested in robotics and technology development.

Responsible for operating solid waste vehicles in the Brush & Bulky Goods Division, Residential Collections Division, Recycle Collections Division, Recycling Center, and Transfer Station Operations which may include, but not limited to, Rear Loader, Long Truck, Knuckle Boom, Transfer Truck, Automated Side Loader, and Roll Off Truck or Bobcat Skid Loader. Operators collect and transport solid waste and/or recycling materials to the transfer station and/or landfill for disposal on a daily basis. Responsible for safe operation and care of ancillary equipment requiring additional skills other than driving ability. Target Hiring Range: $15.91/hr - 19.25/hr Essential Job Functions Act as a Floater Operator between Transfer Station Operations, Residential Collections, Recycle Collections, Brush and Bulky and Recycling Center. Maintain the functionality, appearance and safety of the equipment and/or facilities such as Transfer Station or Recycling Center in compliance with local, state and federal rules and regulations. Remove and transport solid waste and/or recyclable materials for city residents, and commercial businesses to transfer stations or landfill. Maintain safe and efficient operation of solid waste collection and transport equipment and vehicles. Perform pre-trip/ post-trip vehicle inspections and complete daily work sheet for equipment operated. Keep work location and vehicle in order. Respond to customer relations problems. Assist disabled residents and customers with refuse container removal as needed. Operate multiple pieces of equipment in at least two EWS divisions May act as Field Training Operator for training new hires and cross-training existing EWS employees. Minimum Education & Work Experience High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) 3 years related experience with a variety of solid waste collection and transport vehicles Class A Commercial Driver's License Flexibility to shift assignments based on department and operational needs Ability to certify in multiple vehicles within EWS Divisions Ability to lift 50 pounds several times daily Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Preferred Knowledge - Abilities & Skills Education/ Experience: * Class A Commercial Driver's License * A minimum of six months additional training past the high school level * A minimum of 1 year of year experience with solid waste equipment including Rear Loader, Long Truck, Knuckle Boom, Automated Side Loader, Transfer Truck, Roll Off Truck or Bobcat Skid Loader in order to qualify as an EOII. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: * Considerable knowledge of safety standard practices governing the operation of vehicles * Considerable knowledge of relevant traffic laws * Considerable knowledge of the principles, operation and servicing of trucks and related automotive equipment * Skill to operate controls for required equipment; with greater dexterity than an Equipment Operator I level * Ability to properly use, operate and care for tools, equipment and materials * Ability to perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to equipment * Ability to read and understand vehicle operator's manual * Ability to read and use city maps and documentation Licenses & Certifications Valid Class A Commercial Driver's license Completion of a defensive driving course within six (6) months from date of hire Certified to operate Rear Loader, Long Truck, Knuckle Boom Truck, Automated Side Loader, Transfer Truck, Roll Off Truck, and/or Bobcat Skid Loader May primarily operate one and able to operate two or more of the following pieces of equipment: Bobcat Skid Loader, Automated Side Loader, Transfer Truck, Roll Off Truck, Brush Long truck, Rear-Loader, Physical Tasks & Working Conditions The incumbent works primarily in a vehicle while loading solid waste and recyclable materials; frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards.
