Our Connected Aviation Solutions (CAS) group has an exciting opportunity for a Software Engineer II to join our Air Traffic Systems (ATS) team. This is an opportunity to join an elite team of Software Engineers where you will be supporting the development and maintenance of a safety-of-life Satellite-Based Augmentation System (SBAS) developed by the FAA for civil aviation. This system is the cornerstone of the FAA's satellite navigation roadmap, transitioning from ground-based navigation to satellite-based navigation. As a Software Engineer II, you will support the design, development, integration, and verification of operational and non-operational/test software.

What YOU will do:

  • Work with the software team to design, develop, and test operational and non-operational software updates.

  • Work with the software team and leadership to support cost and schedule objectives.

  • Support formal and informal software integration and test activities.

  • Support software qualification testing to meet DO-178B standards for requirements-based verification and robustness testing.

  • Update software process documentation and work instructions needed to meet DO-178B standards and company processes.

  • Update documentation related to test, verification, and design activities.

  • Work within software team and interfacing with other disciplines as needed to meet program milestones.

Education & Experience:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field or in absence of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience.

Qualifications you must have:

  • Minimum 2-5 years of experience in the Software Engineering field.

  • Knowledge of C Programming, structured programming, and the full software development lifecycle.

  • Knowledge of Unix/Linux-based development environment.

  • Experience in Windows and Microsoft products and tools.

  • Experience in software testing and source code debugging.

  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required.

Skills we value:

  • Experience in source code configuration management systems such as ClearCase/ClearQuest, Jira, or BitBucket/Git.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work well within a dynamic team environment.

  • Problem solving and critical situation resolution skills.

  • Experience working collaboratively across program disciplines.

  • Attention to detail and ability to adhere to best-practices and coding standards.

  • Prior WAAS Experience and/or familiarity with WAAS processes and procedures

  • Knowledge of agile, continuous integration, and automated testing concepts.

  • Experience with commercial or open-source test automation tools, environments, and frameworks such as Pytest, Gherkin/Cucumber, Selenium, Eggplant, CUnit/Junit, Parasoft C++test, Jenkins, Grafana dashboards, kickstart.

  • Familiar with web application development using HTML, CSS, JQuery, C#, PHP, Json, VBScript, JavaScript.

  • Familiar with Networking Protocol SNMP.

  • Familiar with NIST RMF.

  • Knowledge of safety critical software requirements/DO-178B standards.

  • Knowledge of Red Hat Linux, Python, SQL, Matlab, bash/ksh/Perl scripting.

  • Flexibility in learning new COTS, tools, processes, or methodologies.

The salary range for this role is 70,000 USD - 142,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
