Title: Software Engineer I

Requisition: 19-1651

Location: San Luis Obispo, Ca.

Position Summary:

Assists with the design, implementation, and maintenance of software systems. Troubleshoots basic software issues. Develops and maintains code and integrates software components into a fully functional software system. May assist with test procedures to ensure software system requirements are met. Gathers information to support software project management. Supports software research and development projects. Works under general supervision. Follows company software standards and processes.

Essential Functions:

  • With general supervision, develops, documents, and maintains code and unit tests by utilizing software development environments and programming languages.

  • Develops, documents, and maintains software design by applying established methods and practices.

  • Performs troubleshooting of defects. Collaborates with others to propose solutions to problems.

  • May gather and organize data for use in plans, schedules, and estimates.

  • May assist in the specification and maintenance of software requirements. Receives guidance and instruction from more experienced engineers.

  • May integrate and compile software components into builds. May test limited component level software in the target environment.

  • May perform troubleshooting of operational and integration issues. May gather and document data on subject matter.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Typical Education and/or Experience

Qualifications:

Bachelor, Master, or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics, or chemistry or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Requirements:

  • Knowledge of and experience with object-oriented programming.

  • Java experience preferred.

  • Web application development experience preferred.

  • Web-centric technologies and languages (e.g., ActionScript, JavaScript, HTML) experience preferred.
