Job Overview

Are you a Java Developer used to working in a dynamic, fast paced and ever evolving environment and looking to cross train into the world of Big Data? Here at LexisNexis we work with big data, geospatial data, and Java web technologies. Bringing these together so that we can provide more answers to more clients about the perils their properties face.

As we implement new customers on our big data solution (HPCC), we need someone who can help us integrate these with our existing Java technology. We're looking for someone who loves technology big data, threading, performance, highly available and scalable systems, where you will be given responsibility, and authority, for our live systems as well as enhancing our products. We offer an agile development methodology, working in sprints to deliver functionality to the product.

In this role, we expect you to bring knowledge of how to work with data, to query it quickly and simply and to integrate this with our Spring based Java applications, and be responsive to our customer issues. We will provide an environment that will allow you to learn big data (HPCC) and geospatial principles and to put them into immediate practice, as well as continuing to further your learning of Java.

Responsibilities

  • Learning our big data system HPCC

  • Liaising with customer support

  • Delivering enhancements and fixes for our product suite

  • Contribute to the agile workflow

  • Responsible for code from development through to production

Qualification

  • 0-2 years of development experience

  • Degree in computer science or related degree or equivalent experience

  • Experience with at least 2 of the following:

o Experience working with RDBMS

o Java 8

o JavaScript

o Spring (Security, MVC)

o Web Services (SOAP, RESTful)

  • A drive to learn and see things done

JOB SUMMARY/OVERVIEW The Software Engineer is responsible for the design, development and release of our organization's web-based applications. Duties include application development and systems integration, spanning front-end, middle tier, and data access components. The company is in the midst of a significant program to revise its core web-based business services delivery automation systems, migrating to a contemporary, open source technology stack. The Software Engineer reports to the Manager/Director of Development for strategic projects, and works closely with program management to ensure successful operational deployment of new applications, while maintaining business continuity of existing applications. This is a hands-on technical role, providing the opportunity for distributed systems integration and development; using contemporary open source technologies to build out a state of the art Human Resources, Payroll, and Benefits services delivery platform. As a Software Engineer you will work as part of a team building new applications written in Java, Spring, Hibernate, Sencha ExtJS, and RESTful services. ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES * Provides hands-on contributions to architecture, design and code development for critical components of the company's next-generation client-facing applications, for "always-on" SaaS production services * Works closely with product Owners and other stakeholders to develop project plans, and participates in resource planning * Use Agile methodology and project management software to collaborate with geographically diverse scrum teams * Develops, evaluates, and implements improved processes, methods and tools to continually improve software delivery effectiveness. * Be able to quickly learn new technologies to support existing products as well as products on the strategic road map * Should be comfortable working independently or collaborating with others JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical /Electronic Engineering desired, or equivalent education and/or related work experience.
