The Autonomy team within Boeing Research and Technology organization is immediately looking for a software engineer to support Boeing's research and development efforts developing the next generation of Vehicle Management Systems (VMS). The VMS is the core computer that controls all aircraft functions, including steering, flight control, and navigation.
This team will be developing software for aircraft applications across Boeing's portfolio of manned and unmanned systems. This particular project has a target to fly a new computer in one of Boeing's UAS system by December 2019.
The software engineer will work directly with seasoned experts to train in achieving this rapid program schedule. This is a leading edge research and development program and its fast paced environment will keep any engineer focused and driven.
The individual filling this position will have his/her primary focus on these activities, but may also be called upon to help with other high priority developmental and experimental programs from time-to-time. This team is a fast-paced, high performance, rapid prototyping group that is responsible for developing the VMS software using a state-of-the-art System/Software Engineering Environment (S/SEE).
Typical job duties at this level may include participating in project-wide activities to learn how to develop, document, and maintain complex architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for VMS software systems; development of code and integration of software components into a fully functional software system; developing software verification test procedures and test environments; executing the test procedures; and documenting test results to ensure software system requirements are met.
The engineer will spend time in a lab environment working with the hardware and its interfaces for development and verification purposes. With the help of the lead engineer this software engineer will learn to work collaboratively with a variety of other individuals and teams including systems engineering, air vehicle design engineering, Guidance, Navigation and Controls (GNC) and other relevant groups.
