Software Developer

Location: Everett, WA or Allen, TX or Tampa, FL

Frontier Communications, Inc. is seeking a talented IT software engineer to help develop and implement a service provisioning platform. The engineer will work with other team members and architects across the enterprise to analyze the business needs, develop a solution, and help implement the solution. The ideal candidate will need to be "hands on" spending a significant amount of time doing development and working with the development team on a weekly basis. The candidate will also work closely with peers and development managers to execute a vision for automation at Frontier.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and innovative software engineer to join our team. If you are self-motivated, a problem solver, a good communicator, and a team player this will be a good fit. Primary Responsibilities

  • Design, and build tools and applications utilizing modern concepts and technologies to automate a host of network and service provisioning tasks

  • Maintain documentation of application architecture and development (architecture, design, and user guide)

  • Engage directly with users to understand business processes

  • Create proof of concepts to validate and drive design decisions for network automation

  • Implement new and modify existing integrations to Frontier's network to automate provisioning and design functions

Required Skills and Experience

  • Experience in the telecommunications industry is a plus but not required

  • Experience in automating repetitive tasks or interactions with software

  • Proficient in at least one (but preferably more) scripting or rapid prototyping language such as Python, JavaScript, Perl, Ruby, Go, etc.

  • Proficient in at least one web framework using one of the above languages (Django, Angular/React, PHP, etc.)

  • Proficient use of modern software development tools such as Git, Jenkins, Jira, etc.

  • Familiarity with basic concepts of Layer 2 / Layer 3 data networking

  • Familiarity with basic concepts of DSL and Fiber to the Home networking a plus, but not required

  • Operating Systems: Unix variants

  • Databases: MS SQL, Oracle, MySQL

  • Languages: AngularJS, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Python, Perl

  • Other:

What we're looking for... You'll need to have: * Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience. * Six or more years of relevant work experience. Even better if you have: * A degree. * Programming language proficiency (Java/Ruby/C/C++/Node.JS/Python). * Three or more years using Agile, Lean, and DevOps practices. * Two or more years of RESTful API development. * Five or more years of application development experience. * Strong proven ability to guide/lead teams and individuals toward beneficial outcomes. * Experience with continuous integration and deployment technologies such as: Bamboo, Cruise Control, Continuum, Jenkins CI, and Artifactory. * Prior experience contributing to Open Source projects. * Demonstrated ability to drive strong Testing practices (TDD/BDD, Test Automation, CI). * Experience with test-driven development frameworks for application and infrastructure code. * Experience with telemetry solutions such as: DataDog, Sensu, Graphite, Influxdb. * Experience with logging and reporting solutions such as: Logstash, Elasticsearch, and Kibana (ELK), Grafana, or Splunk. * Understanding of automation practices throughout the development, build, and deployment phases of the application life-cycle. * Experience with cloud-based infrastructure-as-a-service platforms: AWS, Google Compute Engine, Azure, Soft Layer, OpenStack. * Experience with configuration management and automation tools such as: Chef, Puppet, and Ansible. * Experience with orchestration template technologies such as: OpenStack Heat, AWS Cloud Formation, Azure Resource Manager, Google Cloud Deployment Manager, and Hashicorp Terraform. * Experience developing cloud-native applications that adhere to microservices and twelve-factor application principles. * Experience with programming and scripting languages: Ruby, Go, Python, Perl, bash, ksh. * Experience with development using Github or Bitbucket. * Experience with infrastructure automation, infrastructure as code, automated application deployment, monitoring/telemetry, logging, reporting/dashboarding, and continuous delivery technologies * Experience in building high-performance infrastructures that are scalable and resilient. * Demonstrated ability to create clear and detailed technical diagrams and documentation. * Proven capability to implement alongside the other engineers being coached and developed.
