Current Opportunity: Software Engineer - Austin, TX
The Software Engineer will support the Ed-Fi Alliance through active participation in the full software development lifecycle for multiple products, including the core API platform. The ideal candidate has had significant prior experience designing and developing REST API applications and has worked in edtech or similar public-good sectors. This is an individual contributor role and requires that the person is based in Austin, TX. The Software Engineer will report to the Ed-Fi Director of Software Engineering.
As a Software Engineer, your primary responsibilities will include:
Building and maintaining one or more .NET applications in the Ed-Fi Alliance software platform.
Building and maintaining continuous integration (CI) and deployment (CD) processes for Ed-Fi's demonstration and certification web sites.
Writing product documentation.
Providing escalation ("tier 4") support for technical community issues.
The ideal candidate should have a bachelor's degree in management information systems (MIS), computer science, software engineering, or related field and/or equivalent degree/industry experience and 7+ years of experience working as a programmer / software engineer. The candidate must demonstrate a strong background in most of these areas:
REST API
Object oriented development / SOLID
Continuous integration
Unit testing
Database design
Team leadership
Constructive peer reviews
Technical support
Security
Scrum
Communications
Required qualifications:
Deep knowledge of at least one object-oriented programming language.
Experience working with at least one relational database management system.
Preferred qualifications:
Strong foundation in C#.
Experience with either TypeScript or Python.
Experience with either Microsoft SQL Server or PostgreSQL.
Experience with GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps.
Prior experience working with data standards / interoperability.
Prior experience contributing to open source software
