Calix has an immediate opportunity for a highly motivated, talented and technically strong engineer to join our collaborative and results-oriented Premises software engineering team in our Minneapolis office. Our growing Premises software team delivers leading edge, high performance products into homes and businesses that combine high speed data, wireless, IPTV and home gateway services in a single platform with fiber optic and Ethernet WAN uplinks. Our team has broad responsibility for all aspects of bringing state-of-the-art software and hardware together from low-level embedded software to front-end user interfaces. We offer a great work environment with the opportunity to be involved in every aspect of product delivery from design and implementation through test and large-scale field deployment.

Our products are Linux-based with IoT, residential gateway, Wi-Fi, mesh, IPTV, cloud management, SDN, GUI, and various smart home capabilities fully integrated on platforms that deliver from 1 Gbs to 10 Gbs services. Our CPE devices run embedded Linux with multi-core processors, line rate switching and the latest in embedded technologies from home gateway to Wi-Fi mesh to smart home solutions. We provide solutions to service providers in telecom and cable markets with broad portfolio of products and solutions.

Participate in the design, development, testing and documentation of embedded software applications, tools, sub-systems and services on our Linux-based residential networking products and home gateway devices. Opportunities are present to work in Wi-Fi networking, device management, serviceability and application software for broad experience as a basis for strong career growth.

This position is an opportunity for a hands-on, well-organized university graduate with experience in developing C software in a Linux environment. Successful candidate must be an excellent individual contributor capable of thriving in a team setting with strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with others.

You'll be bringing some great skills and experience to the team:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science (or equivalent)

  • 1 - 5+ years directly applicable programming experience (University experience applies here)

  • Excellent software development skills in C in Linux environment

  • Positive attitude with a desire to learn

  • Ability to take direction, work independently as well as cooperatively in a team environment

  • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Some additional background experience that would be great to have:

  • Knowledge or experience with LXC or Docker containers

  • Linux build systems

  • Knowledge of IP and Ethernet protocols and concepts such as IP/TCP/UDP/DHCP/IGMP/NAT

  • Python expertise

  • Agile development concepts
