About the team and role:

The Observability User Experience Engineer will be responsible for designing and implementing user experiences that enable eBay engineers to monitor, debug and optimize eBay's cloud services effectively.

We are looking for a full-stack developer who will be primarily responsible for designing and implementing effective eBay's Observability platform offering with a specific focus on user experiences.

You would have a thorough understanding of user-centered design principles, standard processes, and trends, along with proficient skills in frontend development using React and related technologies!

What you will accomplish:

  • Collaborate with Observability product teams to define overall user experience needs, workflows, and integrated user experiences across Site engineering Tools, Core Observability experience as well as cloud console based self service product experiences.

  • Build and maintain reusable UI Frameworks, components and component libraries to ensure consistency and maintainability across Observability product lines.

  • Implement responsive user interfaces using modern web technologies, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript with a focus on ReactJS and related frameworks as used in Grafana.

  • Write backend Golang services to power the UIs, Build wireframes, prototypes, and other design artifacts using industry standard tools e.g. Sketch etc.

  • Work with product and engineering teams to ensure design feasibility and successful implementation of features.

  • Conduct usability testing and other forms of user research to validate design assumptions and improve the overall user experience.

  • Stay up to date with the latest design trends, tools, and technologies to ensure the best possible user experience for Observability partners.

What you will bring:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Interaction Design, or equivalent education and experience and 6+ years of experience in user experience design or related field.

  • Strong portfolio demonstrating user-centric design thinking, process, and execution.

  • Strong skills in HTML/CSS/JavaScript with a focus on ReactJS and related libraries and Golang.

  • Proven understanding of Grafana and other open-source observability technologies with the ability to design interfaces that effectively display information from these technologies.

  • Preferred experience and track record of contributing to open source Grafana.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with multi-functional teams and a continuous learner and phenomenal teammate mentality.

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment in California, Washington, or New York is expected in the range below.

$135,200 - $205,700

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employees will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
