Postmates is a three-part balancing act connecting customers, merchants, and couriers in real-time. If any piece is out of whack, the whole system suffers. Backend Engineers are part of a cross-functional team responsible for the end-to-end experiences on Android, iOS, and the web. We value and foster a collaborative environment where product, design, and engineering work together every day to build and design new features for our customers.


  • Server: Go, Python, Elixir

  • Databases: PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, ElasticSearch

  • Platform: AWS, Google


  • Build and launch consumer-facing features to millions of customers

  • Work closely with the web and mobile teams to develop new features

  • Optimize and tune existing systems for speed and performance

  • Build data pipelines and serving infrastructure required to efforts like search and recommendations

  • Work with the Infrastructure team to push our next-gen services


  • Minimum of 4 years of experience developing horizontally scalable and fault-tolerant systems in production

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with Go and/or Python

  • A deep understanding of one or more SQL and/or NoSQL databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, ElasticSearch)

  • Strong knowledge of algorithms and data structures

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) required


  • You're a self-starter and strong finisher

  • You've worked at or started a small company where you had to wear many hats

  • You write well and communicate clearly

  • You prefer problems over tasks

We're in the exciting and rapidly growing consumer healthcare industry which requires continuous innovation, rigorous quality, and iteration. As a Senior Backend Software Engineer you will work closely with other engineers on the team to deliver high quality, scalable software for our pharmacy operating system.
