Job Summary

The Plant Engineering organization is responsible for the technical activities relating to operations and maintenance of plant equipment during Construction, Commissioning, and Operations of the Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant (WTP). The Software Applications Engineer is considered to be under the IT Programmer/Developer job family and is responsible for developing and maintaining software applications and system interfaces through the application of software quality principles. The Software Application Engineer works with management, consultants, developers, and users to compile and prioritize software/system enhancements and defect resolution. The Software Applications Engineer supports the computing needs of the Plant Operations organization.

This position shall be performed under the day-to-day direction, control, and supervision of WTCC

Primary duties consist of the development and maintenance of small software applications and databases to automate work processes. Performs work under direct supervision. Typically, this person will be assigned to small projects or a phase of a larger project and carries out routine and semi-routine tasks. Some evaluation, originality or ingenuity is required.

  • Interfacing with customers to create specifications and designs for new or existing complex software application programs and reports according to project software standards and conventions.

  • Performing Oracle database administrator activities including database design, data migration, SQL script writing, and performance improvements and provide guidance to other software engineers.

  • Troubleshooting and resolving issues related to system interfaces.

  • Performing commercial and developed software upgrades in accordance with software quality procedures and aiding others in the same.

  • Resolving business or engineering problems through the design and implementation of software applications on automated systems.

  • Authoring software project plans, requirements, design, and test plans and reports and reviewing the work of others.

  • Support the Waste Treatment Plant Nuclear Safety Quality Culture by emphasizing the values of safety and quality in the performance of work in order to protect self, others, and the environment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

AECOM has joined with Bechtel to create an LLC, known as the Waste Treatment Completion Company (WTCC) to construct, start-up and commission the world's largest radioactive-waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in southeastern Washington state. The project will use vitrification technology to process and stabilize 53 million gallons of radioactive and chemical waste currently stored at the Hanford Site which is a byproduct of plutonium-production during World War II and the Cold War era.

The project is the largest undertaking of its kind ever and one of DOE's most technically challenging cleanup projectsequivalent to building two nuclear power plants. Its construction site spans 65 acres and includes facilities for pretreatment, low-activity waste vitrification, and high-level waste vitrification, as well as an analytical laboratory.

Minimum Requirements

REQUIREMENTS/SPECIFICATIONS

Education : Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Math, Engineering or equivalent Information Technology field.

Appropriate training and experience commensurate with the responsibilities of the position may be considered in lieu of a degree:
10 years related experience to the position and 20 semester credit hours in technical subjects related to the position OR: Completion of 80 semester credit hours in technical subjects related to the position OR Successful completion of Engineer in Training (EIT) examination or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) accredited through National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) OR Professional engineer's license

Experience : 6 8 years' experience with programming web-based software applications and designing/managing Oracle databases. Technical writing skills required. Knowledge of software quality engineering principles for the management, design, and testing of software desired, but not required. Programming experience with asp.net; Visual Basic, C++, and/or C#; MS Access, Oracle, and/or MS SQL Server database querying desired, but not required; Website development and maintenance desired, but not required. Preferred candidates have experience developing forms and workflows for customers.

This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Must be able to work in the United States without Sponsorship

The Plant Engineer protects the installed configuration of the plant systems, and provides technical support and issue resolution needed for operation and maintenance of the plant equipment. Under direction of the Plant Engineering Manager interacts with other Plant Engineers, Operations, Maintenance, WTP Project groups, subcontractors, and equipment vendors as required to perform job assignments. This position shall be performed under the day-to-day direction, control and supervision of WTCC.
