As a AMERICAN SYSTEMS software engineer, you will conduct a variety of challenging software analysis, software design and software development activities involving cutting edge technologies. These will be relative to the development and integration of leading edge Department of Defense (DoD)/U.S. Air Force (USAF) intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) collection, processing, exploitation, analysis and dissemination capabilities.
In this research environment you will be looking at ways to provide warfighters data in the fastest and most efficient ways possible, which will help with their decision making in a wartime environment. Warfare is conducted on many fronts; our research looks at ways to combine air, cyber and space operations to help fight future wars. We conduct experiments to integrate these fronts to put an architecture in place for a future combat cloud.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Design, develop, document, test and debug applications software.
Perform design development and integration activities within an agile development process.
Participate in software analysis activities to include requirements analysis, gap analysis and technical assessments.
Develop high level and detailed software designs.
Present and demonstrate prototype software capabilities
Development of new research area recommendations to introduce solutions, products, services and best practices to fit customer needs.
Organize and carry out development tasks, and work as a member of a tightly integrated team.
Work under general direction independently determining and developing technical approaches
Design, develop, interact and integrate systems that collect, process and exploit US Air Force, U.S. DoD and allied/coalition data feeds, data bases and intelligence sources to include: imagery, video, electronic/signals intelligence, cyber intelligence and other forms of geographically and temporally registered data
The successful candidate will have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, think independently and overcome technical challenges as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team. Will also have excellent verbal/written communication skills. 10 to 20 percent travel may be required per year.
If selected, you will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Selected candidate may be required to submit to a polygraph.
Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Computer Systems Engineering or related STEM degree plus 2 years of relevant experience; or a Master of Science degree in Computer Science, Computer Systems Engineering or related STEM degree plus 0 years of relevant experience.
Distributed software design experience.
Knowledge of application architectures.
Current, active Top-Secret Department of Defense (DoD) clearance.
Experience designing, developing and integrating systems/software involving one or more of the following technology areas:
Service-oriented architectures (SOAs), J2EE Framework, Enterprise services and integration with enterprise service buses (ESBs) and/or Virtual machines/secure virtualization techniques.
Experience with the definition of experimentation/capability evaluation plans
Enterprise computing, cloud computing architectures (public and/or private)
Experience with big data architectures and analytic techniques
Experience with security engineering, public key infrastructure (PKI) and certification and accreditation (C&A) of DoD systems in accordance with DoD Risk Management Framework (RMF), DoD Instruction (DoDI) 8510.01
Certification(s) to meet DoD 8570 compliance by currently possessing/holding required certifications.
