The Software Development Engineer In Test position (Systems Analyst IV) reports to the Quality Assurance (QA) and Automation Manager in Health and Human Services Commission Information Technology (HHSC IT). This position is responsible for executing exploratory and automated testing activities in an Agile/Scrum environment to ensure high quality software and certifies compliance according to regulatory statues, policies, and procedures. Performs highly complex level diagnoses and test planning, documentation, and execution of manual test cases.

This position will also create, design, and maintain advanced manual / automation test execution reports and dashboards. Makes recommendations for improving QA and automation processes and best practices based on analysis.

Creates and maintains test and automation documentation on processes, policies, application configuration, and maintenance of help-related materials for business / QA team members. The position will lead, organize and clean-up manual and automation test efforts. Works in collaboration with other team members and management. Essential Job Functions:

Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.

Oversees and develops manual and automation test effort of the HHSC IT organization and its environments. Monitors the health of the environment by executing automated scripts regularly. Reviews reports and dashboards and monitors quality of the application software. Troubleshoots and provides solutions to manual and automated test issues. Provides recommendations to the HHSC IT team as needed. Accurately represents the business needs as requested and effectively communicates these needs with QA team and the Salesforce Development team and management. (30%)

Communicates with team members and relevant partners verbally and in writing on issues, resolutions, and expectations. Monitors and manages the team's SharePoint and/or Confluence. (30%)

Potential to serves as one of the subject matter expert for HHSC IT organization and its applications. Learns the security aspects of each application. Meets with the Development and business teams to ensure proper test coverage of the application under test. Stays up-to-date with relevant Quality Assurance and automation trainings along with relevant automation related Technical trainings. (10%)

Perform QAA Test plan / automation code reviews on Peers Application under test areas. (10%)

Coordinates with other team members on creating and updating applications automated test cases / manual test cases. (10%)

Creates and maintains reports and dashboards. (5%)

Performs automation code deployment as needed. (5%) Knowledge Skills Abilities:

Knowledge of software Quality Assurance methodologies, tools, and processes.

Knowledge of Jira and common test automation software such as Selenium.

Knowledge of code coverage tools, process or systems analysis, and design work.

Knowledge of software usability concepts and requirements traceability, project management life cycle, Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) process.

Knowledge of SQL and scripting.

Skill in planning manual and automation test efforts for IT applications using Java.

Skill in performing thorough regression testing when bugs are resolved.

Skill in monitoring debugging process results, troubleshooting and problem-solving. .

Skill in tracking quality assurance metrics, including defect densities and defect counts.

Skill in communicating with different stakeholders to identify and gather system requirements.

Skill in verbal, written, and presentation communication.

Skill communicating with varied levels of staff and end users to develop positive and effective working relationships.

Ability to provide assistance by responding to inquiries from others regarding errors, problems, or questions about programs.

Ability to build consensus across multiple teams and working with teams located in different geographic locations.

Ability to work under pressure and successfully manage multiple, overlapping deadlines.

Ability to perform analysis and maintenance in a production environment, maintaining customer critical applications in a highly visible environment.

Ability to accurately track time spent working on projects, as well the ability to accurately estimate changes or enhancements.

Ability to analyze work related problems, draw evidence-based conclusions, and devise innovative solutions.

Ability to prepare and present accurate, concise, and reliable reports. Registration or Licensure


Initial Selection Criteria:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in computer engineering or programming, information technology, or a related field. Appropriate experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Minimum 3 (three) years' experience designing, developing, implementing, and executing Test Automation Framework in Selenium, QTP, RTW, etc.

Minimum 4 (four) years' experience in software development and quality assurance.

Experience in writing clear, concise, and comprehensive test plans and test cases.

Experience in Agile/Scrum development methodologies. Additional Information:

The posted salary range reflects the minimum and maximum allowable by state law. Any employment offer is contingent upon available budgeted funds. The offered salary will be determined in accordance with budgetary limits and the requirements of HHSC Human Resources Manual Chapter 7.
