Schwab is recruiting a driven, results-oriented Software Development Engineer who shares our passion for technology, innovation and excellence. We are in the midst of re-architecting and rebuilding our core enterprise software platform to support our rapidly growing and evolving business. We are moving towards a Test Driven development and Continuous Integration environment using Bamboo and Bitbucket.

The engineer will be a hands-on developer that excels in a dynamic, fast-moving, and agile environment and is passionate about developing high quality, high performance, and scalable software. Successful candidate to be responsible for individual coding contributions to the team. The candidate will work aside a team of seasoned engineers whose main objective is to maintain all aspects of the overall software development lifecycle and ensure the on-time, quality delivery of software product releases.

What you are good at

  • Above all else you're an engineer and a full stack tester (Data-Services-UI). You solve problems through automation. You're curious and hungry to learn new things and look to make a long lasting impact on the project.

  • Testing complex systems: web applications (Angular/React) and data (SQL/NoSQL).

  • Creating your own REST services (in any language), and are familiar with parsing JSON and XML.

  • Working in an Agile environment. Iterative test development and working as part of a distributed engineering team doesn't scare you.

  • Contributing to open source projects. If you have github.com contributions - we'd love to check them out

  • You're lifelong learner. You're able to grasp difficult concepts and complex designs and stays on top of new and emerging technologies.

What you have

Required skills:

  • 5+ years of strong, demonstrable experience working as software developer or SDET using C# or Java programming language

  • Experience writing automation testing for web applications

  • Experience with modern JavaScript UI frameworks like Angular and React

  • Experience testing RESTful web using test automation frameworks. Ability to parse nested JSON/ XML. SOAP experience a plus.

  • Experience using 'git' as source control system (cherry-pick, merge conflict resolution should be second nature to you)

  • Experience working in CI/CD environment. (Bamboo) One should be able to create, modify and execute job from scratch using 'git' as source

  • Experience working with acceptance test-driven development (ATDD) or Behavior Driven Development (BDD) using Gherkin languages like Cucumber, Cucumber-jvm, Cucumber-js, SpecFlow, Serenity

  • Comfort with the Atlassian toolset (Jira, Confluence, Zephyr Tests)

Preferred skills:

  • Experience with .Net core, Angular, MongoDB, SQL Server, PCF, Bamboo, Bitbucket is preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or similar area of study

  • Financial Services experience is a strong plus

Who We Are The BigCommerce engineering team is on a mission to build the leading SaaS ecommerce platform. Our global team of engineers works from our Austin, San Francisco, and Sydney offices and are focused on building the right product for our customers in the right way. On the Billing Platform team, we build and extend the tools, marketplaces, and frameworks that enable our merchants and partners to manage their experience. Our primary languages are Ruby and React + TypeScript. Architecturally we use REST APIs, gRPC, and we leverage a host of internal deployment and cloud infrastructure tools. We cannot achieve this trust without a heavy focus on quality through automation. In this role, you'll help us build and extend our automated testing frameworks in our domains. You'll also work closely with software engineers, UI designers, and product managers to define stories, acceptance scenarios, test plans/cases and advocate for best practices that improve software quality. Ideal candidates will come from a strong business / technical background and have the ability to understand complex business requirements and technical architectures. Our test frameworks are written in Ruby, JavaScript, and PHP. What You'll Do * Work with a product manager to define features, acceptance scenarios, and test cases * Advocate for customer experience through consistency and simplicity * Work with engineers to ensure test cases are reflected in code and automated tests * Identify opportunities to use end-to-end tests to provide greater value and confidence around software * Advocate for practices and tools that promote quality, such as solution design, effective unit testing, static analysis, etc. * Identify relevant quality metrics for the team like error rates and thresholds * Advocate for, implement, and monitor tools that provide alerting on those metrics * Investigate defects and produce minimum viable test cases to reproduce them * Support frequent deployments to production * Help foster a culture of pride and obsession around delivering quality software Who You Are * 3+ years experience in software development and/or writing tests and managing testing frameworks in one of: Ruby, PHP, JavaScript * Minimum Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, MIS or related equivalent experience * Experience with one or more of these frameworks: RSpec, PHPUnit, or jUnit. * Experience with Selenium or Selenium Wrapper a plus. * Experience with continuous integration tools like Travis, Circle, Bamboo, Jenkins * Experience testing APIs using Postman, SoapUI, etc. * Adept with both low level unit tests and high-level integration / full stack tests * Passionate about the quality and integrity of software experiences and continuous improvement * Capable of understanding business and technical needs of feature development and can help product managers and engineers make decisions that deliver quality features in an optimized timeframe * Strong communication skills and can help facilitate meetings, discovery sessions, story writing, and documentation Our Hiring Processes Might Include We want to see your problem-solving and analytical skills.
