Successful engineers use their experience to research and evaluate technical options, then apply standard methodologies and design patterns to architect, build, and maintain high quality systems. They work across teams to define and articulate the true technical requirements underlying feature requests, and design with an eye for simultaneously accomplishing company goals, improving existing systems, and reducing technical debt. They are also acutely aware that software isn't complete after shipping, instead designing for stability, monitoring, and maintenance over time to deliver quality software while shooting for stars; they create systems that can evolve but last for years. More than just building, engineers also mentor, evangelize engineering practices, and continuously inspire technical excellence across the company.

Part of Finance Engineering Team:

  • You will be building an accurate, immutable, scalable and resilient financial tracking system.

  • You will be building a scalable reconciling platform via integrating with diverse bank APIs around the globe to provide accurate view of financials.

  • Integrating online machine learning and predictive analytics models with our transactional systems to improve treasury operations.


  • A BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.

  • 5+ years of experience as a software developer.

  • A deep understanding of software development practices, system design, software design patterns, and algorithms.

  • Expertise in one or more general purpose languages like Java, Go, PHP, JavaScript,Python, or Ruby.

  • Strong ability to mentor and influence other engineers.

  • Excellent verbal and written interpersonal skills.

  • Experience defining and influencing technical designs and processes across a team.

This position contributes to Starbucks success by designing, developing, and sustaining automated test processes, practices, methods, tools and controls in support of application and system requirement, development and test activities throughout the software development and sustainment lifecycles. Supervises other software development engineers in test to develop simple to complex test automation scripts. Recommends quality improvements to automation requirements, development, and execution, and facilitates the development and implementation of test automation frameworks. Provides oversight and guidance to analysts, developers and testers in the creation and implementation of test automation processes, methods and tools. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles. Summary of Key Responsibilities Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following: * Develops, maintains, and executes automated test scripts. * Advances and improves automation framework design features and implements automated test suites and test cases within that framework. * Recommends quality improvements to automation requirements, design, build, and execution, and then assists in the development and implementation of enhancements. * Participates in tool analysis, creates proof of concept models, and makes recommendations to support the tools selection process. * Establishes the criteria and participates in evaluation on whether features and functions will be automated. * Provides oversight to quality assurance analysts and engineers, developers, and testers on test automation and performance test activities, and then accurately monitors and communicates test execution results. * Consolidates, analyses, and debugs automated test scripts. * Creates and manufactures test data needed for execution or database population. * Follows coding and design standards and provides suggestions on improvements. * Participates in the continual maintenance of code base and refactoring.
