Are you excited about building high-performance robotic systems that can perceive, learn, and act intelligently alongside humans? The Amazon Robotics team is creating new products and technologies that make this possible, at Amazon scale.
The Virtual Systems software team is seeking broad, curious software engineers to join our diverse, full-stack team. In addition to holistically designing, building, and delivering end-to-end robotic systems, our team is responsible for the core infrastructure and tools that serve as the backbone of our robotic applications, enabling roboticists, machine learning scientists, and software engineers to collaborate and deploy systems in the lab and in the field. Our work spans real-time software, machine learning engineering, big data, simulation, and more.
In this particular role you will work closely with both world leading scientists and product teams across Amazon, translating research into real robotics systems deployed across our fulfillment network.

Architect, design, and implement robotic software applications for robotic solution simulations.

Work with stakeholders across hardware, science, and operations teams to iterate on systems design and implementation.

Create robust, high-quality, well-tested software to interface with and control sensors, actuators, and other hardware.

Collaborate with machine learning and robotic controls experts to implement and deploy algorithms, such as machine learning models.

Create simulations to profile, tune, and optimize system performance.

Create re-usable software and systems to accelerate robotics development.

Maintain high standards by participating in reviews, designing for fault tolerance and operational excellence, and creating mechanisms for continuous improvement.

1+ years of experience contributing to the system design or architecture (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems.
2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

Programming experience with at least one software programming language.

Master's or advanced degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline.

Experience in one or more relevant technical areas: robotics, computer vision, machine learning, sensors, real-time systems, embedded systems, distributed systems, simulation, high-performance scientific computing, or building infrastructure for engineering/science users.

Expertise building and testing real-time or safety-critical systems, such as aerospace, automotive, or medical devices.

Experience with interdisciplinary developments that involve hardware, software, and algorithm co-design.

Experience supporting large-scale infrastructure and tool development for scientific/engineering users.

Solid fundamentals in operating systems, embedded systems, or systems programming.

Independent and ability to work with minimal direction.

Demonstrated experience incubating and productionizing new technology, working closely with research scientists and technical teams from idea generation through implementation.

Job Description About the Team The Data Platform and Observability team is based in Pleasanton,CA; Boston,MA and Dublin, Ireland. We enable real time insights across Workday's platforms, infrastructure and applications. Our focus is on the development of a large scale distributed data platform to support mission critical Workday applications. The team provides software for collection, ingestion, storage & visualization of critical data assets. We handle 100s of terabytes of data in the form of billions of messages produced daily by Workday applications and underlying services. Role & Responsibilities * You will architect, design and build critical Data Platform services. * You will build data capture and collection services using the latest technologies. * You will design and develop core software modules used to build real-time and batch data processing. * You will build Stream processing software to ingest, process, enrich and store various data assets. * You will work with all aspects of data processing with a keen eye for data quality, data integrity and data availability. * You will evaluate/implement new open source and cloud native tools and technologies, as needed. * You will participate in the on-call rotation supporting the data platform. About You * You have a BS/MS in Computer Science or a related technical field * You have a strong software engineering background and a proven track record of delivering high quality products at scale * You must currently be in a hands-on role. Must have strong coding skills(Java or Scala, Python & Go would be a plus) and be able to design systems that meet the business needs. * You must have a solid understanding of high performance data capture and collection systems, design of APIs around these systems. Design for reliable delivery of data. * Good understanding of how Hadoop/Spark/Presto cluster works * Different storage formats - Parquet/ORC * Performance optimizations on Hadoop workloads * Query Access on Storage Engines such Hadoop/S3 * Strong Knowledge on AWS EMR ecosystem * You have 5+ years of experience in building high performance data ingestion software and solving for concurrency, latency and efficiency. * Excellent interpersonal, technical and communication skills * Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment Nice to have * Experience working with Public cloud (GCP/AWS etc).
