The Amazon Modeling and Optimization Team (MOP) lowers the cost of operations and delivery and expedites the delivery experience for the Amazon customers through research and development for optimization, predictive modeling and machine learning algorithms. Software Engineers in MOP own the productization of the algorithms - the platform, infrastructure, data stores, data visualization, and both back-end as well as front-end code of the tools.

A day in the life
A successful candidate will combine strong technical and leadership skills to deliver results as well as to identify potential improvements in the processes from peer researchers and scientists. You will have opportunities to self-drive your own work, communicate and collaborate with your fellow engineers and researchers to come up with end-to-end plans, and ultimately have full ownership on the products you build. We are looking for talented SDEs who enjoy working on developing creative algorithms; designing, implementing and improving large scale systems and who thrive in a fast-paced, fun environment.

About the hiring group
As a technology team, we are not tied to one technology - instead, we use what is best suited for the purpose. You will have the opportunity to work with a wide variety of technologies and really push the technical envelope. You'll work to expand Amazon beyond market expectations via innovation and technical exploration through iterative development which includes project scoping / development that emphasizes software excellence. All of our systems tend to be loosely coupled, communicating using synchronous and asynchronous messaging, leading to a classic distributed processing architecture.

Programming experience with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design

Bachelor's degree in computer science related fields OR 1+ years equivalent experience in software development

Programming experience with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design

Ability to comfortably work with a variety of people, including peer engineers, program managers, researchers and scientists

Programming experience with either Frontend or Backend system, and a willingness to work on both Frontend and Backend

Master's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or similar technical field
2+ years of Software Development experience

Experience in modern web development with HTML, CSS, and popular JavaScript frameworks (AngularJS, React, etc.)

Experience developing cloud software services and an understanding of design for scalability, performance and reliability

Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
