We are seeking an experienced Software Development Engineer who will focus on Speech and Language Understanding technologies as they are applied to Entertainment use cases (music, video, and books). In this role you will design and build new capabilities and tools to help our Scientists solve problems and deliver new features for our customers. You will work in a fast-paced Machine Learning environment that prioritizes natural and intuitive customer experiences. Delivering reliable and high-performance solutions at Alexa-scale requires engineers with extraordinary technical expertise and boundless creativity. A day in the life

You'll work with a group of talented SDE's who support AESLU's Science teams by accelerating their experiments, and building systems that directly impact end-users' Entertainment experiences on Alexa-powered devices. Come be a part of the most widely used Alexa domain - Entertainment!

About the team

We're based in Cambridge, MA, in the exciting Kendall Square neighborhood. The team has been growing rapidly in 2021 and works mainly in Python and Java. We power the VUI (Voice User Interface) for Music, Video, Audible, Kindle, Radio, and Podcast experiences.

  • Programming experience with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science related fields OR 1+ years equivalent experience in software development

  • BS degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering or related field

  • 5+ years professional experience in commercial software development and delivery

  • Proficiency in a modern programming language such as Java, Python, C++, or C#

  • Understanding of scalable computing systems, software architecture, data structures, and algorithms

  • Knowledge of network, distributed, asynchronous and concurrent programming

  • Knowledge of professional software engineering best practices for the full software development life cycle

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong analytical skills, with excellent problem solving abilities

The Entity Resolution (ER) team part of Alexa AI works on one of the core server-side components for Alexa's Natural Language Understanding (NLU) module, which provides additional context and information about the user's question to Alexa.
