We're the mobile and web development charter organization at WEX. As a Java Software Developer, you will be joining the Back-End Development team and focus specifically on supporting several of our mobile and web apps. We use the Kanban agile process framework and the embedded DevOps model. Our highly autonomous team controls the full Software life cycle from development, to release, to maintenance and operations.

About the role

  • You will ultimately be supporting 8 to 9 mobile apps and 2 web apps. It includes designing, developing, and testing software systems or applications for software enhancements and new projects.

  • You will have to navigate within and develop micro services, data access libraries and back-end applications and services to provide our customers with the best mobile experience possible.

  • You will leverage the latest technology to improve the quality, stability and increase performance of our apps.

Required

  • Experience with the Spring framework, specifically Spring Boot and Spring Security

  • Experience with web services / REST APIs (AWS, Azure)

  • Experience with Database, SQL, and Java Persistence API (JPA)

  • Experience developing with Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, etc.)

Preferred

  • Experience with CI/CD systems such as Jenkins/TeamCity a plus

  • Experience with Amazon Web Services a plus

As group lead, you will be responsible for managing a small team of developers in all aspects including performance, compensation, and coaching. Your day will consist of a variety of activities. You will engage in activities as an individual contributor on a team, and will also provide support to your direct reports and their respective teams through technical mentorship. Activities include: * Supporting backlog development and product acceptance * Contribute to software and UX design decisions * Developing features and perform code reviews * Supporting department goals and driving initiatives within engineering * Mentor and coach other software engineers * Oversee HR activities for 3-6 engineers * Ability to perform work of high difficulty in designing, creating, and modifying software application features * Use and promote modern software development principles and best practices to design and develop software that meets customer requirements for functionality and performance, as well as ensure the maintainability, scalability, and security of the software * Understand and decompose business requirements * Create designs to meet requirements and provide documentation outlining design and operation * Possesses an understanding of Industrial Automation and Industrial Internet of Things (IIOT) spaces and products * Provides technical leadership on project teams, and mentors software engineers in technical leadership * Ability to coach people of various skill levels in 1:1 settings * Practices effective communication with direct reports in a way that drives continuous professional growth * 2+ year's experience in mentoring or managing members of software teams Expert knowledge of the following technologies: * Languages: C, C++ required, Java, C# and scripting languages such as Python desired * Software Tools: IDE, Source Control Systems, Static Analysis Tools, Dynamic Analysis Tools, Issue Tracking software, Unit Testing Frameworks, Network Analysis Tools, Conformance Testing Tools.
