Legg Mason's global IT department is hiring a junior Software Developer for its Business Data Solutions team. The incumbent will work in our Baltimore, MD office and work alongside a team of experienced IT professionals.
The Developer I is a more junior role perfect for a recent college grad. The Developer I resolves a wide range of issues in imaginative as well as practical ways; works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors; involved in testing and programming efforts; and supports daily activity of business areas and provides technical support for system and software issues.
Designs, develops, implements, documents, and tests changes to an application subsystem. Codes, tests, debugs, documents, and implements complex software applications. Supports system and integration testing activities. Initiates design reviews for new applications and adheres to software development standards.
Meets programming standards by following production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; identifying work process improvements; implementing new technology.
Resolves and helps mitigate production application issues and assists less experienced application developers as needed. Works with other business and technology teams to support resolution of end-user inquiries. Contributes to the documentation of production support processes. Anticipates long term support issues and plans for corrective actions. May perform root cause analysis to identify permanent resolutions to software or business process issues
Shows appetite and aptitude for owning responsibility of technical decisions and direction for one or many projects.
Demonstrates interest in improving the company's technical awareness, depth and use of technology across the business.
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks.

Ideal Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in computer science or a related field by January 2020. Position will begin on or before January 15, 2020.
1-2 years of experience in programming and systems design preferred. Will also consider recent college grads.
Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship; LM Technology is unable to consider visa candidates for this junior position
Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of programming concepts including Object Oriented Programming
Experience with any programming language (e.g. Python, C# and/or .Net)
Knowledge of Perl, Korn Shell scripts a plus
Knowledge of Oracle database, PL/SQL, and basic data modeling a plus
Application design, development and deployment experience in a Linux server environment
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to quickly learn new application systems and technologies
Knowledge of basic project management framework and methodology
A thirst for knowledge and growth; intellectual curiosity
