OpsTech IT provides 24x7 global IT support to Amazon Operations, including Fulfillment, Sortation, Logistics, and Last Mile. We also provide operational support on behalf of key partners including Amazon Fulfillment Technologies, OpsTech Infrastructure Engineering, Amazon Robotics, Amazon Warehouse Control Systems, and Amazon Lockers. OpsTech IT is looking for a Software Development Manager to lead the Camera Integration and Standards Team. This team is responsible for ensuring that there is a set of standards that all of the cameras installed in Amazon sites must meet. They are responsible for building and maintaining the image intake pipeline and integrating legacy sites onto the platform. With the new specialized requirements for imaging in the warehouses, this team is also responsible for working toward an Amazon-owned set of camera hardware which will provide on-the-edge computer vision functionality such as real-time human detection and redaction. The Camera Integration and Standards Team owns the end-to-end image pipeline from uploading the images to S3 to vending the images to customers.
As the manager, you will be responsible for driving the technical direction for a large software system. You will be leading initiatives to get better visibility into performance of software systems and drive innovation and process improvements. You will also be responsible for working closely with other managers of software development teams within Amazon to lead changes through their systems.
The role requires you to be able to manage the overall software development life-cycle which includes the following responsibilities:
Create, prioritize, communicate, manage, and execute road-maps, project plans, and commitments
Report on status of development, quality, operations, and system performance to management
Work closely with engineers to architect and develop the best technical design and approach
Foster culture of continuous engineering improvement through mentoring, feedback, and metrics
Hire, coach, and mentor individuals; build a strong cross-functional organization
Partner with a diverse customer base to understand requirements, priorities, and processes
Propose and implement new projects or recommend system improvements.
Own all operational metrics and support

7+ years of relevant engineering experience
Experience in partnering with product and program management teams
3+ years of people management experience, managing engineers
Deep hands-on technical expertise
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong business and technical vision
Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
A deep understanding of software development in a team, and a track record of shipping software on time
Exceptional customer relationship skills including the ability to discover the true requirements, underlying feature requests, recommend alternative technical and business approaches, and lead engineering efforts to meet aggressive timelines with optimal solutions
