We are open to this person being located anywhere in North America, with preferred Rockwell locations of Cleveland, Milwaukee, San Jose, Austin, Phoenix, and Toronto.

Responsible for commercial software product development for a core, high growth Rockwell Automation control system product line. This is an industry-leading industrial automation software product that has won numerous awards for innovation and usability.

The Data Architect is a multi-skilled architect who helps to understand the business context and requirements, and then helps design the necessary data architecture, drives the vision, partners with the engineers in a hands-on fashion to deliver the work. The role will be responsible for working within our Software Architecture team to ensure that all software platforms and services conform to disciplined, industry best practices.

A successful candidate for this position must possess both a deep and wide background in data architecture being applied across a wide breadth of technologies spanning both solutions built on traditional platforms and more modern deployments on "open" technology stacks.

  • Data architect will take a lead role in defining and assessing System/Client Data Architecture, strategy, and practices to support business objectives and data management strategies. He or she will work with other Software architects to ensure that data and information is fully integrated into systems architecture

  • Responsibilities include collaborating with and influencing multiple cross-functional teams, as well as technical leadership of a large development team or leading technical aspects of a multi-team project.

  • Gain an understanding of our Current State and Target State Architecture and responsibility to define solution-level Data architecture for project and work with Software Architecture team on reviews and conformance to Rockwell Automation security standards

  • Work directly with Engineering teams to enable successful project implementation applying the recommended security tools, technologies and techniques

  • Conduct proof-of-concept activities with key business users in support of advanced use cases

  • Work with relational and/or analytical models or techniques and knowing how to apply them in real-life business applications, across multiple platforms in the complex system environment:

  • Collaborating with business systems analysts and product owners to define requirements and turn them into performant and scalable data architectures

  • Leveraging containerization models and working with other software engineers and software architects to keep the systems architecture current

  • Proactively monitoring industry trends and identifying opportunities to implement new technologies

  • Understanding how to scale and partition data for both cloud and on-premises

  • Familiarity with a variety of different data storage technologies (Document, Relational, Graph, etc.) and knowing when and how to use/combine them
