Job Description

Software asset management (SAM) provides a framework and set of processes that strategically track and manage the software assets' life cycle's financial, physical, licensing, and contractual aspects. SAM is an important discipline within Verisk's IT asset management (ITAM) capability. The SAM discipline aims to create a dependable account of software asset costs and risks, providing support for software strategy, architecture, service management, funding and sourcing decisions.

Everyone in Verisk is responsible for and involved in software asset life cycle management under the governance of the software asset management function. Software asset management (SAM) is the focal point for data analysis to support the effective management of organizational software assets, whether owned and managed by IT, third-party service providers or business units outside IT.

This role reports directly to the Senior Software Manager, reporting/partnering to/with procurement (SS&P) and finance (dotted line/Collaboration). Additional collaboration may include Internal Audit, Business Unit managers, and IT Risk and Compliance.

About the Role

Responsibilities

The Software Asset Analyst I is responsible for:

• Working with the software asset manager to raise awareness of SAM policy and processes across the entire Verisk organization through communication with and education of stakeholders.

• Develop and generate SAM reports to communicate and monitor compliance, liability, and budgetary data.

• Maintain the software asset database, including input, update, and connection, ensuring software asset relationships are maintained (with particular reference to entitlements entry and update, procurement, deployment, entitlements allocation/assignment, maintenance of tables and entitlements, and retirement connections)

• Manage Software Requests ("New Software Catalog item"), including verifying request information and updating the request tracking data.

• Work with procurement, compliance, and legal departments to assess and review "New Software Catalog item" requests.

• Analyzing exception data to identify potential policy breaches and their causes; investigating and reporting on license compliance issues; and developing remediation options.

• Managing and administering the assigned Publisher portals, ensuring registration and reallocation of licenses to users. Respond to user inquiries regarding their license registration and allocations.

• Monitor the standard software request to identify any workflow processing or requisition transfer errors. Communicate with users regarding delayed purchase approvals to help expedite the approvals.

• Examine shelfware, support options, rationalization, license recycling, and optimal license usage practices to identify cost savings areas.

• Working with the software asset manager, assist in developing, preparing, and delivering SAM operational reviews and other summaries of SAM performance as required by business unit stakeholders.

• Manage inquiries from the business about software usage, deployment, and license availability for assigned publishers. Assist the Senior Software Asset Manager in collecting and collating data for external publisher license review and audit inquiries.

Work Arrangements

The Software Asset Analyst I will have no direct reports or managerial duties and is expected to work during normal business hours. However, additional work outside these hours may be required on occasion.

Education and Training

• Educated to an associate degree or equivalent level.

• Proficiency in PC-based applications, including word processing and spreadsheets.

• Optionally Certified by a recognized national or international IT or IT asset management association or 2 years experience in IT, ITAM, SAM, or equivalent.

Skills

The software asset analyst/librarian must have the following skills:

• Strong communication skills and the ability to work with stakeholders at all levels of Verisk

• Strong analytical, data-gathering and problem-solving skills, with the ability to carry out data visualization and create high-quality documentation and specifications.

• Highly organized with acute attention to detail

• Excellent stakeholder management, meeting facilitation, and presentation skills.

Knowledge

The Software Asset Analyst, I should have knowledge and experience of the following:

• Knowledge of various types of vendor software contracts and license agreements in local or global environments, including typical EULA content

• Experience with asset management and/or inventory management systems

• Understanding of the IT asset management lifecycle stages, with preferential emphasis on software assets.

• Understanding and use of reporting tools, with excellent PC skills and experience in working with Microsoft email and Excel.

Experience

Essential

• 2 years in an analytical role (for example, data analyst, financial analyst)
• 2 years working in an IT-related field

Desirable but not mandatory

• 1 years of experience working in the insurance industry

• 2 years of hands-on information gathering, analysis, and reporting on any organization assets.

• Familiarity with databases and understanding of the basic principles of ITAM and SAM

• Familiarity with specialized software asset management of Hardware asset management systems.
