Twilio is growing rapidly and seeking an Architect who is passionate about leading cross-functional R&D teams. Flex, the first fully programmable cloud contact center, is a platform product that integrates both native Twilio services and well as serving up a pluggable infrastructure that allows partners and customers to extend and customize the platform for their unique needs. This role will serve as the Architect across the global Flex R&D organization driving product architecture, reducing information silos across the org to improve decision making, and coordinating with other engineering teams to ensure seamless integration with other twilio services.

  • Have a track record of designing and building large-scale, cloud-based, highly available software platforms.

  • Are an API first developer who understands the power of platforms.

  • Are passionate about enabling other developers through your leadership and driving teams to efficient decisions.

  • Have the ability to balance long-term objectives with urgent short-term needs.

  • Can successfully lead teams through very challenging engineering problems.

  • Domain Expertise in one or more of: Data pipelines and workflow, contact center technologies, identity management.

  • Bachelor's degree in a computer science related field or equivalent experience.

You'll bring your deep experience with distributed systems and platform engineering principles to the table. You are passionate about operational excellence and know how to build software that delivers it. You are able to think at scale, define, and meet stringent availability and performance SLAs while ensuring quality and resiliency challenges across our diverse product and tech stacks are addressed.

  • Worked with your team providing engineering leadership and ensuring your resources are solving the most critical engineering problems, while ensuring your products are scalable, performant, and highly available.

The successful candidate will have some proven experience with architecting and guiding development against web-scale cloud deployments (we use AWS) in a modern tech stack leveraging and seeking best-of-breed architectural solutions. What You Will Do: * Providing the technical direction for My Ancestry Explorations. * Working closely with product managers and external partners to understand the requirements and propose architecture that would meet the architectural goals. * Working closely with scrum teams to help them build solutions that take best advantage of technologies in Ancestry (and AWS) while following required governance processes. * Working with architects in Ancestry to drive architectural best. * Staying up to date with cloud industry technologies and best practices. * Mentoring software engineers and technical leads in the organization. * Participate in code reviews and provide guidance. * Provide guidance on code quality including testing best practices. Who You Are: * Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent combination of education/experience. * 10+ years of experience designing and building large-scale, highly available software systems application stacks such as Node.js, React and React Native. * 5+ years of hands-on experience with front end development experience with modern web. * 5+ years of hands-on experience with Java. * Deep knowledge of relational databases including MySQL or Postgres. * Strong understanding of NoSQL databases. * Expertise in authoring, reviewing, and presenting technical documentation including technical requirements documents, architecture diagrams, and sequence/flow diagrams. * Proficiency in software design and in mentoring and reviewing the designs and code of others. * Demonstrated communication skills and ability to clearly explain the business consequences of software design decisions and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical audiences. * Ability to work closely and collaboratively with engineering managers, product managers, and engineers to collectively drive towards the optimal solutions for Ancestry.
