Charles Schwab Investment Management (CSIM) Technology is part of the Schwab Technology Services (STS) organization which is responsible for the company's use of information technology including all telecommunications, operations and client and business applications.

CSIM Technology is aligned to support the technology needs of Charles Schwab Investment Management Inc. (CSIM) which is the investment advisor for Schwab's proprietary mutual funds, referred to as the Schwab Funds; and it includes Schwab's exchange-traded funds, referred to as the Schwab ETFs. With over $500bn in assets under management, CSIM is the 3rd largest provider of index funds and the 7th largest provider of money market funds.

What you'll do:

This is a Software Architect role that will support the investment process within CSIM Technology. This role is based in Denver, CO or Chicago in the Architecture and Frameworks team in CSIM Technology. This is a position within CSIM Technology and will be directly supporting the Front Office for Investment management. The individual will play a key role in architecting and developing the CSIM's Front office technology strategy involving fixed income, Equities, portfolio management and Investment Risk teams.

The individual will be responsible for designing and building a technology platform that delivers an intuitive investment process by connecting the phases of the investment lifecycle. The architect will be responsible for designing, coding and integrating software across the investment lifecycle in support of Research Analysts, Portfolio Managers, Investment Risk analysts, Traders, Compliance and Fiduciary Oversight. The job involves driving the creation of software designs and C# code templates and libraries that enable complex analysis of Investment management and market data that can help our portfolio managers and analysts make better investment decisions. The candidate will be work in a heterogeneous environment with vendor tools and legacy tools (technology and user developed) that need to be migrated to our strategic platform.

What you have:

This role requires a highly motivated and hands-on and experienced Architect with proven record of software delivery to a front office investment management business. The candidate must convey pride of ownership reflected through clean architecture design, code quality and a disciplined software development approach.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • A university degree from a well-respected academic institution; advanced degrees in Information management, Computer Science, and/or other professional certifications are a plus

  • At least 5 years experience in investment management ( preferably with Front Office applications)

  • At least 8 years of prior software development experience with C#, .NET

  • At least 8 years' experience architecting and integrating 3rd party internal and SaaS applications developed in C# Angular

  • In depth understanding of cloud ready applications, experience developing applications for the cloud and in particular with Cloud Foundry, Azure or AWS

  • Strong API and web services (REST/SOAP) development experience, JSON, XML

  • At least 5 years of experience with the design, development and integration of highly critical trading applications

  • At least five years' experience participating in the software development lifecycle leveraging the latest methodologies and industry applicable technologies, fluent in C#

  • Experience working and designing large software systems, particularly distributed and Cloud systems, knowledge of integration design patterns and software development lifecycle with a strong breadth of capabilities

  • Experience or knowledge of Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery

  • Experience or knowledge with Cloud Foundry and designing applications that can run in a cloud environment such as AWS or Azure

  • Strong ability to design, code and debug applications in various software languages.

  • Proven record of delivering technology solutions within agreed upon timeframes

  • Experience with regulatory and compliance solution and information security

  • Skilled communicator and negotiator with exceptional written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills

  • Prior financial services experience is a plus

Our Opportunity: This is a junior level development role on our Customer Account Technology (CAT) team. The CAT organization is made up of several Agile software development teams that deliver technology services and solutions for all of our clients across different lines of businesses and different domains within Schwab. Our technology is a key foundation for internal system integration and our front end customer and rep capabilities. This technology role is involved with the development of application modernization within CAT.
