Job summary

The Data Protection team is looking for an experienced Software Architect to join our Ann Arbor-based team in Barracuda's Data, Network, and Application security division. You'll be part of the team building the next generation of our Appliance-based, which serve to protect our customers' Office 365 emails, files, historical revisions, public cloud services and on-premises servers against accidental or malicious data loss You will work to all aspects of the application while working closely with the product management and leadership teams. The technologies you'll be using include Kubernetes, Helm, Docker, gRPC, MySQL, PHP and Azure Cloud Services, including Cosmos DB, Blob storage, AKS, and Azure DevOps CI/CD.

Job responsibilities

  • Lead projects, include resource-, task-, and cost-analysis, and timeline planning

  • Design, prototype, implement and test features, improvements and optimizations for the product

  • Find and fix bugs in production and development environments

  • Define and uphold standards for code quality and architecture, including the use of SOLID design principles

  • Investigate feasibility of ideas and concepts and develop implementation plans for production-quality projects

  • Mentor team members in design and development best practices, sharing skills, expertise and a positive influence

  • Thoughtfully give, and gracefully receive, rigorous code reviews

  • Develop and interpret metrics to monitor production system performance

  • On-call rotation for the services your team is responsible for

  • Document thoroughly and communicate research and results

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in a technology field, or equivalent work experience

  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, including root cause analysis

  • Curiosity and drive to learn and investigate unfamiliar systems

  • Proficiency in developing software in a Linux/Unix environment

  • Proficiency in using Git

  • Experience leading and mentoring teams, evangelizing change

  • Experience in refactoring complex monolithic codebases using SOLID principles

  • Experience writing automated tests (unit, component, integration, and end-to-end)

  • Experience building and deploying applications in the public cloud

  • Experience building and using Docker containers

  • Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Enthusiasm and willingness to communicate via video-conferencing and text-based chat (especially during COVID-19)

The following are considered a plus:

  • Kubernetes and Helm experience

  • gRPC experience

  • Azure cloud services experience (Blob, Cosmos DB, AKS, Azure DevOps)

  • Experience logging, monitoring, and tracing microservices in production

  • Jenkins experience

  • PHP experience

  • RDBMS experience (MySQL/PostgreSQL)
