GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

This position will meet and work with inmates to complete classification actions, parole summaries, progress reports, and work release plans, assists in cell and pod inspections, and responds to informal inmate grievances.

  • Classifies inmates to complete risk management assessment for program and housing placement and makes referrals based on need.

  • Delivers evidence-based programs.

  • Responsible for individualized case planning, monitoring, and reporting correspondence, contacts, and case notes for all inmates on caseload.

  • Responsible for casework management duties to include planning and production in all facets of programming and associated documentation.

  • Administers risk/needs assessments.

  • Works with offenders to develop pro-social behaviors and to prepare inmates for successful re-entry into society.

  • Prepares, organizes, schedules, and implements cognitive-behavioral programming and individual interventions.

  • Monitors inmate compliance with established goals and objectives; updates case plans as needed.

  • Facilitates compliance with court-ordered recommendations and parole board actions for offenders.

  • Facilitates attorney-client phone calls.

  • Assists security in the day-to-day operations of the unit.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES/AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:

Preference may be given to those with a Bachelor's Degree, typically in Social Services; Plus 1-2 years (s) of progressive work experience in Casework.

The Wyoming Department of Corrections will only accept degrees from an accredited University or College from a nationally recognized accrediting organization. Agency requires that applicants provide transcripts and documentation of degrees at the time of the interview.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of human behavior, motivation, and interpersonal behavior.

  • Knowledge of the varied techniques of programming/education.

  • Knowledge of social work principles and practices.

  • Knowledge of interviewing and counseling techniques.

  • Knowledge of current social, economic, and health problems and community resources.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor's Degree (typically in Social Services)

Experience:

0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Casework)

OR

Education & ExperienceSubstitution:

3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Casework)

The Wyoming Department of Corrections Re-Entry Unit oversees transitional cases by facilitating their reintegration into society. This candidate isresponsible for the transition of identified high-risk/need inmates from incarceration to community supervision. We are currently seeking a Re-Entry Specialist to fill this position in the Rawlins Wyoming State Penitentiary. The WDOC is a positive evolving department with job variety and challenges that help make a difference with offenders and the community. Human Resource Contact: 307-777-6136Deborah Hale ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level. * Coordinates case plans for inmates/offenders to address medical and/or mental health needs, support system, sustainable employment, long-term housing, sex offender and substance abuse treatment needs, basic life necessities, and transportation. Includes plan development and comprehensive documentation of plan completion. * Meets with inmates/offenders to educate and discuss services, transition planning expectations, and local and national resources. * Prepares and completes the necessary documents for cases. Evaluates and audits case plans to ensure procedures and standards are being followed and met. * Provides informational support for inmates/offenders and case managers to ensure complete and comprehensive case plans, compliance with policies and procedures, and implementation of evidence-based programs. * Facilitates training and education for caseworkers and/or agents on evidence-based programs and best practices. Includes training content development and delivery. * Works collaboratively with the various agency, state, and federal staff and the courts, local law enforcement, and local service providers. * Acts as liaison between the department, governmental agencies, and service providers. * Facilitates offender programs, disciplinary's and has oversighton all phases of the Parole Board Coordination. * Works in conjunction with the Unit Management Team, supplying guidance and advice and being directly involved in completing relevant actions. * Implements methods and controls to evaluate and improve functions based on Compass, PSI, and evidence-based programs and may administer assessments to inmates/offenders. * Provides operational guidance, technical assistance, and training. * Monitors accountability and compliance of program participants. * Travels to various institutions or community corrections facilities to interview and assess inmates or offenders to ensure program or contract compliance. * Develops and maintains a list of community-based services available to the offender upon or during release; functions as an intermediary between community services and the Department of Corrections. * Prepares and completes all necessary documentation for all ICOTS cases. * Responsible for coordination with WDOC Probation and Parole on all consecutive probation cases. Qualifications PREFERENCES: Preference will be given to candidates who have experience working in a correctional setting with case management experience.
