Secondary Behavioral Intervention Coordinator

Required Certification(s): Valid CT certification in Secondary Teaching or related area: 065/165, 070

Preferred: Experience mitigating challenging student behaviors in a regular education environment. (BCBA credentialing may be substituted for direct experience)

Position Definition: The behavior interventionist assists classroom teachers at Walsh Intermediate School and Branford High School with the management of challenging student behaviors by supporting and guiding them in using evidence-based practices to provide positive behavior supports.

The behavior interventionist will conduct classroom observations, provide feedback, offer intervention strategies, and model the implementation of student-specific behavior strategies.

Successful candidates will possess a strong understanding of the clinical aspects of a behavioral approach, as well as a demonstrated record of applying that understanding to the general education classroom.

Essential Duties

  • Assist staff in defining and measuring behavior, understanding principles of reinforcement, identifying antecedents, teaching new behavior, and implementing strategies for reducing challenging behavior.

  • Support school teams in formally collecting and analyzing behavioral data to effectively make decisions regarding the implementation of appropriate behavioral interventions.

  • Assist in developing interventions, behavioral support plans for the purpose of providing a safe and effective educational environment using evidence-based strategies for students with challenging behaviors that have been resistant to classroom systems of support.

  • Develop individualized plans to support staff in the development and implementation of effective classroom management, evidence-based behavior strategies, and behavior intervention plans.

  • Plan and conduct high quality professional development for staff on the development and implementation of effective classroom management plans, evidence-based behavior strategies, and targeted interventions.

  • Develop a repertoire of assessment strategies consistent with instructional goals, teaching methods, and individual student needs to more accurately assess student behavior skills and understandings.

  • Assist administration in leading safe school climate initiatives.

  • Engage in on-going professional development to increase knowledge and skills of positive student behavior support for all/targeted students, and those displaying a need for behavioral support.

Salary per Branford Education Association Contract
