Paraprofessional / Behavior Support (Job ID 1015)

Reports to the Principal
Full Time / Academic Calendar (185 days)
Anticipated start date July 1, 2024
Position Overview: The Special Education Paraprofessional will work collaboratively with certified special education teachers to support the academic, behavioral, and social development of students in grades K-5. The individual will provide one-on-one and small group instruction, implement specialized teaching strategies, and assist in the creation and adaptation of educational materials to meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities.
Major Responsibilities & Requirements:
Assist in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavior intervention plans (BIPs) under the guidance of certified special education teachers.
Provide one-on-one and small group instruction in academic subjects, including reading, math, and writing, using specialized teaching strategies and techniques.
Support students in developing independent learning skills and self-management strategies.
Assist in maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning.
Implement behavior management strategies and techniques to support students with behavioral challenges.
Monitor student behavior and provide feedback to the teacher regarding student progress and needs.
Collaborate effectively with teachers, therapists, and other school staff to support the overall development and progress of students.
Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, achievements, and concerns.
Participate in team meetings, IEP meetings, and professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Assist in the preparation and adaptation of educational materials and resources to meet the individual learning needs of students
Utilize assistive technology and adaptive equipment to facilitate student learning and participation in classroom activities.
Provide personal care and support to students with physical disabilities or medical needs, as required.
Assist student with mobility, positioning, and other daily living activities to promote independence and inclusion.

Qualifications/Requirements:
Must have taken and passed the ParaPro test or have 2 years post secondary education (minimum 48 credits) or Associates Degree or higher
Preference will be given to candidates pursuing or interested in becoming a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)
Consistent attendance is an essential function of this position
Previous experience working with children or individuals with disabilities preferred.
Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team and adapt to changing priorities and responsibilities.
Excellent professionalism and communication skills
Ability to withstand the physical demands of frequent standing, bending, kneeling and therapeutic holding as required.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift, move, and position students with physical disabilities or mobility challenges.
Ability to assist with personal care tasks, including toileting, feeding, and dressing, as required.
