The Children and Family Services Coordination Center is seeking a Senior Social Worker. The Placement Support team was developed to assist in stabilizing children with their current caregivers and additionally to support foster providers with new youth placements.

The placement support team supports children who are initially placed in out of home placement to meet their immediate needs. We use a quality parenting initiative approach (QPI) which is a national movement for foster care change, made up of a network of states, counties and private agencies committed to ensuring that all children in care have excellent parenting and lasting relationships.

Location and hours:

This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the North Minneapolis Service Center, 1001 Plymouth Avenue North, Minneapolis, MN 55411 and remote as job duties require. Work will include travel outside the metro area to conduct meetings. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, with typical hours of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., with flexibility. Occasional evening hours may be required. While these positions are designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.

New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022 to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment.

In this position you will:

  • Meet the immediate needs of children in out of home placement.

  • Provide and facilitate information to the receiving foster family so they have knowledge of how to best meet the needs of the children in their care.

  • Support foster parents, children, and families to prevent disruption.

  • Support QPI practices at the time of placement to focus on building a co-parenting relationship between the foster parent and birth parent(s) to discuss vital information to meet the child's needs.

  • Assist foster parents in ensuring that health screenings and well-child checks are conducted with primary doctors within the first 30 days.

  • Set up school transportation, complete child referrals, and provide resources to foster parents.

  • Document tasks and utilize data systems such as Social Service Information Systems (SSIS), Enterprise Communication Framework (ECF), Minnesota Court Information System (MNCIS), Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Teams.

  • Train investigations, ongoing, induction, foster care licensing, and case management staff on the QPI and placement support team tasks.

Need to have:

  • One of the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or human services, and 18 semester (27 quarter) credits of graduate work in the above areas, and three years or more of full-time supervised experience as a social worker.

  • Master's degree or higher in social work or closely related field with course work emphasis in areas such as social work methods, human growth and behavior, and principles of social welfare.

  • Licensed as a Graduate Social Worker by the Minnesota Board of Social Work.

A valid driver's license, daily access to reliable transportation, and the ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver's permit to travel primarily within/outside of the metro area to meet with clients in their residential settings and/or perform authorized off-site work duties.Nice to have:

  • With case management.

  • Working in child protection services.

  • Working with and supporting foster parents, children, and families.

  • Utilizing data systems such as Social Service Information Systems (SSIS), Enterprise Communication Framework (ECF), Minnesota Court Information System (MNCIS), Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Teams.

Knowledge of:

  • The Quality Parenting Initiative (QPI).

Ability to:

  • Train staff on the QPI and placement support team tasks.

  • Set up school transportation, complete child referrals, and provide resources to foster parents.
