About the Unit

Corewell Health Helen DeVos Children's Hospital (HDVCH) is developing a new 12-bed pediatric medical-psychiatric unit. This unit will accommodate pediatric patients who have co-occurring behavioral health and medical needs.

Through the coordination of medical and mental health services in this dedicated inpatient space, HDVCH will be able to meet the needs of our community's most vulnerable children. In addition to having the new unit, the behavioral health team will work with external community partners such as Pine Rest and Forest View to find placements for patients who come to our Emergency Department with behavioral health needs, but do not need medical care. With true collaboration, external partners will be able to transfer patients to HDVCH if they require care for both behavioral health and medical needs.

We are anticipating this new unit to open May 2024.
