The incumbent of this position provides services to the community-based outpatient clinics in Southern New Jersey. This will include the Northfield, Vineland, and Cape May Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCS).The Social Worker independently provides case management and therapy services and telehealth to eligible Veterans and their family members to meet biological, psychological, social and environmental needs. Veterans treated come from a wide geographic area. Their health care and psychosocial problems and needs are complex and require a high degree of clinical oversight and creative problem-solving. Services are provided in healthcare settings in the outpatient clinic and in the community.
This Incumbent will perform clinical and case management duties for Veterans enrolled in Behavioral Health Services. Services may be conducted in the office or in the community setting. Provision of services will require visits to the home and may include visits to psychiatric hospitals or any location the Veteran is inhabiting in order to engage the Veteran and assess the Veteran's needs. This case management position will work with the already established Behavioral Health teams and other mental health, social work, and primary care colleagues. This position includes the provision of a range of social work services: assessment, treatment planning, clinical interventions, individual psychotherapy, group therapy, and family therapy, advocacy, resource utilization, and collaboration with community partners.

Education. Have a master's degree in social work (MSW) from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work.
Licensure. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Current state requirements may be found on the OHRM website.

Possess at least two years in an area of specialized social work practice.

Experience, Education and Licensure. Senior Social Workers have experience that demonstrates possession of advanced practice skills and judgment. At least two years should be in an area of specialized social work practice. Senior social workers must be licensed or certified by a state at the advanced practice level which included an ASWB advanced generalist or clinical examination, unless they are grandfathered by the state in which they are licensed to practice at the advanced practice level (except for licenses issued in California, which administers its own clinical examination for advanced practice). Senior social workers may have certification or other post-masters training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship or equivalent supervised professional experience in a specialty (see paragraph 3a(c)).

Physical demands of the work are generally minor but will likely require frequent travel. Physical activity involves sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing stairs, and carrying light items such as papers, books or other supplies. The incumbent uses a computer and standard office equipment to complete tasks. The emotional demands can be stressful in working with the patient population and their families. The work requires extreme patience and controlling of emotions therefore, a level of self-awareness is essential.
