Title: Social Worker

Reports to: Liberty Partnerships Program Assistant Project Director

Department: Liberty Partnerships Program

Campus: Brooklyn

Job Duties: The Liberty Partnerships Program at Long Island University is a New York State Education Department grant-funded initiative to provide dropout prevention and college and career readiness services to at-risk youth in New York City School District #13. The Social Worker position is a full-time grant-funded opportunity with the expectation of providing direct services to students with the focus on developing students' social-emotional learning skills.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the planning, implementation, and evaluation of Liberty Partnerships Program students referred for individual or group counseling based upon their behavioral or social-emotional needs.

  • Develop a mentoring program curriculum in collaboration with the Project Director, Assistant Project Director and staff of our partner high schools.

  • Administer a social-emotional assessment and evaluate the results to determine appropriate interventions for students.

  • Assist in the development of student-centered social-emotional activities.

  • Supervise social work undergraduate or graduate student interns.

  • Facilitate workshops for parents/guardians.

  • Prepare required reports, surveys, attendance, and release forms.

  • Maintain appropriate records.

  • Keep informed of current trends in social-emotional learning.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Director.

Qualifications:

Master's degree in social work required.

A New York State License (LMSW, LCSW, LMHC) is preferred.

Seminar in Field Instruction (SIFI) Certification preferred.

Experience working with at-risk youth in grades 8-12 and families.

Experience facilitating individual and group counseling.

Demonstrate cultural competency.

Proficient written and oral presentation skills.

Special Information:

Programming occurs at Long Island University Brooklyn campus and partner high schools. Flexible work schedule.
