Job Goal: Provides a problem solving service to children and their families. Serves as a member of diagnostic teams and members of educational planning and placement committees and provides biological, psychological, and sociological assessment information.
QUALIFICATIONS: (Knowledge, Skills and /or Abilities Required)
Must hold a Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) from a university/college accredited by the Council of Social Work Education
Licensed by the Indiana Behavioral Health and Human Services Board (LSW, LCSW)
Must Hold or be eligible for Indian Department of Education Title IV school Services License
Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills.
Able to demonstrate knowledge of and ability to use a personal computer and word processing software
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with educators, administrators', building employees, parents, students, and the public
Previous experience in a school setting or in an agency serving adolescents and their families is strongly recommended
Duties and Responsibilities:
Help developed Behavior Intervention Plan, write social histories, develop goals annually, and progress monitor for progress
Provide crisis intervention
Oversee the McKinney Veto (homeless student act) process at your building
Develop long-term and short term interventions strategies consistent with student's social and emotional needs, strengths, background, and life experiences.
Knowledge of SEL implementation
Use a variety of strategies, tools, and techniques to evaluate the progress and performance of students and families
Services to Parents and Families provides services to students and their families within the context of multicultural understanding and competence that enhances families' support of student learning.
Collaboration and consultation Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and other staff to develop least restrict interventions and/or accommodations for students who qualify for a Section 504 plan
Collaborate with community mental health centers and other agencies that provide assistance to families for community care
Consults with school staff and administration on issues of attendance, confidentiality, cultural competence, mental health, behavior management, peer conflict, bullying, discipline, crisis intervention and child abuse and neglect
Develops and provides training and education programs for students, staff, and parents that address promote SEL, healthy, caring school climate
School Community Liaison Assist students and their families with gaining access to community resources
Maintain accurate record and documentation of service provided
Maintain all licenses required for school social worker position by participating in appropriate professional development to improve knowledge and skills
Organize time, resources, and workload in order to meet responsibilities
Other Requirements
Has incorporated social work values, knowledge and practice skills
Demonstrates the ability to apply the above in facilitating student's improved social functioning and movement toward optimal, physical, emotional and social health
Demonstrates the ability to function as an effective member of an interdisciplinary health team and is willing to accept some flexibility in roles
Attends meetings after work hours and participates in health fairs and fund raising activities
Can develop and maintain productive relationships with significant community agencies and professionals
Understands the physical and psychological developmental processes of adolescents and related behaviors, and exhibits an accepting attitude toward adolescents
Demonstrates skills in verbal and written communication
Has access to automobile with adequate insurance coverage and valid driver's license
Performs other related duties, as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the school duties.
SALARY: In accordance with the current teacher's salary schedule
Working Conditions and Physical Environment
Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal; hear and understand speech at normal levels; to bend, to stoop, to sit on the floor, to climb stairs, to walk and to reach overhead. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to angry students/parents and neighborhoods considered to have high levels of violence potential.
