The Hennepin County Behavioral Health Area in partnership with the Minneapolis City Attorney's Office are seeking a Social Worker to lead early engagement efforts with residents in Minneapolis. This position will identify, engage, refer, and connect individuals in the Minneapolis 3rd Police Precinct neighborhoods to needed services and supports. They will focus on meeting basic needs, reconnecting to existing services, providing transportation to the Behavioral Health Center as needed, and fostering connections to services and support for those living with mental health conditions or substance use disorder.

Behavioral Health is an innovative and growing service area within Hennepin County's Human Services department. They provide a range of mental health and substance use services to residents including populations intersecting children, adults, and criminal justice. They have 230+ staff including social workers, psychologists, program managers, supervisors, planners, and others working collaboratively to meet their system goals of expanded access, upstream help, and person-centered services.

Location and hours:

This position is located at the Hennepin County Behavioral Health Center at 1800 Chicago Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55404, with community engagement in the east and southeast neighborhoods of Minneapolis. Work hours will primarily be between 10 a.m.

  • 7 p.m., Monday through Friday with occasional need to work outside of these hours. Shift schedules are subject to change due to division programming changes.

In this position, you will:

  • Engage with residents to assess their needs and provide short-term assistance to connect the individuals with internal, community resources, and assistance to new or existing service providers.

  • Welcome and hold space for individuals while conducting street engagement within and around southeast and east Minneapolis neighborhoods.

  • Develop a rapport, show respect, and honor the client's choice.

  • Provide transportation to bring people to the Behavioral Health Center for connections to longer term services and supports, especially for needs related to mental health and substance abuse.

  • Collaborate with health and human services partners, public safety partners, and other community stakeholders.

  • Attend community engagement events and present information about the partnerships to interested parties.

Need to have:

  • One of the following:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in social work, psychology, sociology, human services, or an equivalent field.

  • Licensure as a social worker by the Minnesota Board of Social Work

A valid driver's license, access to reliable transportation to travel primarily within/outside of the metro area to meet with persons in their residential settings and/or perform authorized off-site work duties, and the ability to obtain a Hennepin County Driver's Permit to provide transportation as needed to essential services. Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for long periods of time.Nice to have:
