JOB DESCRIPTION:

Provides comprehensive social work services to parents, students and school staff. Responds to referrals from school administrators, parents, teachers and the Problem Solving Team. Assists families in accessing appropriate community resources.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as a student advocate and as a liaison between the home, school, and community

  • Provides intervention services for students and families with interpersonal and environmental difficulties

  • Assists in the referral process of students and/or parents to appropriate community agencies and follow-up as necessary

  • Provides consultation and collaborative services to teachers, principals, counselors, and other school personnel

  • Makes home and community visits, as needed

  • Helps identify and provides services to homeless students

  • Models and maintains high ethical standards

  • Coordinates and develops specialized services for students/at risk students, Special Education, parents, and families

  • Develops and implements plans to enhance students' school success

  • Assists school personnel in understanding that family, culture, socioeconomic status, and physical and mental health can affect student performance

  • Develops a rapport with designated students and acts as a mentor when appropriate through individual and small group contact

  • Develops programs designed to help students to improve their attendance, cope with crisis situations, develop self-discipline, build self-esteem, enhance problem-solving and decision-making skills, take advantage of educational opportunities, and learn to resolve conflicts without violence

  • Develops and conducts Parent Education/Parenting Support training programs for parents on how to actively participate in their child's education, use school and community resources more effectively, and identify and meet their child's emotional and social needs

  • Participates in school and district level professional learning activities for continued professional growth

  • Demonstrates initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities

  • Provides services to individual students at assigned schools having emotional, social, behavioral, or attendance problems

  • Demonstrates appropriate organizational and time management skills

  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law

  • Responds to inquiries and requests in a timely and positive manner

  • Maintains and submits required reports, records, and correspondences in a timely and accurate manner

  • Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local laws

  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in social work from a social work program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education

  • Licensure by the Alabama State Board of Social Work Examiners

  • LCSW or equivalent preferred

  • Three (3) years of successful professional social work experience in child welfare and adolescents preferred

  • A valid driver's license

SUCH ALTERNATIVES TO THE ABOVE QUALIFICATIONS AS THE BOARD MAY REQUIRE.

NOTE: Employment experience gained in the private employment sector may be considered for this position.

Reports To Director of Social Emotional Learning

Salary Range: From/To Classified Salary Schedule 86 ($53,906 - $90,789)
