Job Title: Social Worker Adolescent Mental Health

Roles & Responsibilities:

The Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center (MSAHC) delivers comprehensive, integrated medical and mental health services and prevention education to young people aged 10 to 24. It is the largest center of its kind in the United States providing confidential, quality health care, mental health and support services to underserved and at-risk youth, regardless of their ability to pay. At the MSAHC, young people can find a wide range of services specially designed for their needs, including: primary health care, sexual and reproductive health, counseling, support, mental health and family therapy, comprehensive psychological testing, dental care, optical services, legal services, nutrition, fitness, and wellness programs.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

As part of an interdisciplinary medical and mental health team, provide social work services to high-risk adolescents and their families in a medical clinic at the Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center. Provide high-risk, traumatized adolescents with short-term individual, family, and group psychotherapy, intense case management, crisis intervention, and health education as part of the interdisciplinary team.

Consult with medical providers who are working with high-risk patients with both medical and mental health needs and conduct clinical assessments on patients referred by medical providers. Participate in developing an innovative model to engage and retain adolescents who have a variety of psychosocial concerns, particularly focusing on individuals with history of trauma (e.g., sexual abuse, domestic violence, community violence, physical abuse).

This is a full-time position that will be four flexible weekdays and Saturdays.

Requirements:

Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Experience working with low-income, inner-city, at-risk adolescents with complex trauma histories.

Skillful in assessing clients' needs in relationship to health and psychosocial functioning and establishing interventions accordingly.

Experience/training in at least one evidence based model (i.e. TF-CBT, DBT).

Experience assessing and treating substance use disorders preferred.

Experience delivering therapeutic interventions, such as preventive and risk- reduction models that reflect developmentally appropriate methods and materials.

Excellent collaborative, clinical, and communication skills.

Excellent organizational and documentation skills.

Skillful in collaborating with external resources and coordinating appropriate referrals.

Experience working with Transgender Nonconforming Youth preferred.

MSAHC is a unique, New York City-based program that delivers comprehensive, integrated medical and mental health services and prevention education to young people aged 10 to 24. MSAHC is the largest center of its kind in the United States providing confidential, quality health care and support services to underserved and at-risk youth, regardless of their ability to pay. At the MSAHC, young people can find a wide range of services specially designed for their needs, including: primary health care, sexual and reproductive health, transgender health services, counseling, support, mental health and family therapy, comprehensive psychological testing, dental care, optical services, legal services, nutrition, fitness, and wellness programs. Provide social work services to at risk adolescents and their families in an integrated medical and mental health clinic at the Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center. Provide short and long term individual, family, and group psychotherapy, intense case management, crisis intervention, and health education as part of an interdisciplinary medical and mental health service model. Complete psychosocial assessments and develop treatment plans. As part of an interdisciplinary team, provide transgender and gender non-conforming (TGNC) youth with individual, family, and group psychotherapy, intensive case management, crisis intervention, and health education. Provide evaluations for gender dysphoria and hormone and surgery-readiness as needed. Consult closely with medical providers and legal advocates who are working with patients. Provide counseling related to medical transition. This is a full-time position that will be four flexible weekdays and all Saturdays (8.30am to 4.30pm). Requirements: * New York State LCSW required. * Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. * Significant experience working with low-income, inner-city, at risk adolescents. * Experience working with Transgender Nonconforming Youth. * Experience/training in at least one evidence based model (i.e. TF-CBT, DBT). * Experience delivering short and long term individual, group, and family therapeutic interventions. * Experience working with populations who have complex trauma histories. * Excellent clinical, collaborative, communication, organizational, and documentation skills. * Skillful in collaborating with external resources and coordinating appropriate referrals. * Solid working understanding of adolescent growth and development. * Skillful in assessing clients' needs in relationship to health and psychosocial functioning and establishing treatment goal accordingly. * Working knowledge of state regulations related to child abuse, neglect, and other urgent care issues.
